hi, my brother now has the breeding pair of kribs in his tank, so i still have 2 females left. i'm assuming that they would still attack the corys? i've just bought 6 black kuhli loaches(see thread in tropical discussion), which are really cool BTW. anyway, i'll be going to my lfs on Wednesday, so could i give them the other 2 kribs(as it's too far to take them to the person who'd give me £2 each) and get 5 or 6 corys? i'm still stuck as to which species to get. it's between the tri's and the bronze. i can't decide. if it wasn't for the price, i'd defo go for the tri's, but they're so expensive. i suppose if i get them in 2 groups of 5, then it won't seem as much, as i won't be paying it all in 1 go. they seem to be smaller in MH, so is it a bit of a rip off? or is it better to buy them when they're younger?
hi, how old the corys have to be to breed? and harlequins, i was wondering how many babies you have from your tri's, and how long they take to grow big enough to go back in the main tank? and could i raise any fry in a breeding net in the tank, until they were big enough to go in the tank with the other fish, or do i need another tank to raise them in? and why do they have to be so big before they can go in the main tank? the fish i would have in the tank are their parents, SAEs, copper harlequins, harlequins, kuhli loaches, cherry shrimp, serpaes, cardinals, rummynoses and ottos. with these fish, what size would the fry have to be before they could go in the main tank?
I'm not sure on the age of cories when they start to breed, but my tri's were giving eggs every week or more, but not many 16 was the most, after a tank hunt ,they hide the eggs well
Look at my profile it has a run down of how they laid.
Ideally you should set up a fry tank for any fry,but i personally have has probs with the fry tank,so have been rearing them in breeding nets, which seem to be working for the past few months, and only lost a few in that time instead of 2/3 daily in the fry tank... I am going to try a juvi tank when they get bigger
Bigger the better before you add them to the main tank, like any fish if they can fit in any fishes mouth, they will eat them.
Think my first ever juvi's were around 10 weeks old before i put them in with the adults.
hi, did you start off with 10 tri's? i have decided that i will get those, as i think they look a lot nicer than the bronze. before when you said that the bronze are more active, are the tri's very active, or do they just sit around most of the time? and is £5 each a good price for them when they are about 1", or is that a bit dear? i could get some about 1.5" for £5 each, but in that shop they only have 4. they also have C. punctatus, which look quite cool, but again, they only have 4. are C. punctatus a nice species, and are they easy to breed?
I started off with 6 Tri's,3 died soon after,the 2 weeks later these 3 started spawning,so i added a further 4 Tri's,the rest are 6 juvi's plus a further 2 juvis in the pygmy tank.Thats the price i paid for my Tri's.
thanks, i think i'll stick to the tri's then. should i buy the small ones (1"), or the 4 bigger ones(1.5-2") + a few of the smaller ones? i think that it would be best to get them all at the same size, is that the best idea? also, would it be worth only getting 6, and letting them breed to build up the numbers, or might they not breed unless i get more?
Hello hon, best of luck getting your tris, they are gorgeous cories. Perhaps start off with a group of 6, see how they settle in and also if they do breed for you an added bonus? 6 is a usual good number to attempt breeding with most cory species
thanks, i'll get the 6 and hope for the best! i'll probably get them by Saturday at the earliest, as i'm busy revising. i'll add some pics when i get them. should i get 2 female and 4 male?
