Hi Daveo :)

A 20 gallon long tank is a perfect cory cat tank.

It's even better for them with the sand and caves. The long low tank is just right for corys since it has so much bottom space for them to roam around.

For a little color and variety on the top, a betta would be a good companion fish for them. I've had that kind of set up and loved it. :D

can i put puffers with corys. I don't want to try and find out that they cant. 8)

What type of behaviors please you the most?

If you like pretty colorful fish that swim in a group, then tetras are a good choice.

For active fish, danios are quite chipper little things.

Cichlids are semi-colorful and can be extremely interesting.

What can I put shell dwellers with in that tank. I would like to have a pl*co with them and maybe some tetras and some rams and and and and and and. something else. 8) can I do that.

Shellies don't like other fish with them. You don't need other fish with them. They are colorful, active, and a blast to watch. I've spent countless hours sitting by their tank, looking at them take sand in their mouths, spit it out on their neighbors shell, then the neighbor taking the same sand and spitting it back at them. Plus, it's fun to watch them form colonies and to see males taking care of all their females. They're a blast! :D

EDIT: I forgot, you can put dianos in there with them. They leave eachother alone, the dianos stay on top, shellies on the bottom.

If you like African cichlids, here is a link that describes what you can put in a 20 gallon long. My 20g long is still in the basement waiting for me to do something with it!! Am thinking of cichlids cuz they like long low tanks. I had a concern that the recommendations of this site might cause overstocking of the tank, but several members in the cichlid forum of this site said it would be OK.

Are shellies very expencive? and would they use like hermit crab shells instead of snail shells? If not would it be easyer to buy a snail and let them eat it out of the shell or buy them.

You can buy empty snail shells on Aquabid.com for a very cheap price. The shellies don't eat the body of the snail out of the shell in wild but find dead snail shells to live in. Snails are not apart of their diet. As hermit crab's shells are usually snail shells, go right ahead on getting those, but make sure the opening is at least 1 inch across. You can buy wild Shellies for $8-10, or tank raised shellies for right around $5.

You could have a pair of rams in a 20 gallon, with some other small fish. I have a pair of rams and 5 neons in a 10 and it's working out great! With LOTS of hiding places, you could maybe fit 2 pairs of rams in there, but maybe not - they can get pretty territorial...

My spellings horrible for this word, but you could probably get apistogrammas. They're dwarf cichlida like rams but they look different, there's lots of different types and colors.
