What Book (or Books) Are You Currently Reading?

A good few books on the go at the mo....
( that rhymed  )

Christopher Ross; Mishimas Sword (interesting to read about Mishima, lunatic or genius? not sure, but definitely dead!)
Friedrich Nietzsche; Beyond Good and Evil (again! always good for a quick sharpener)
The Diaries of Vincent Van Gogh (i'm completely ignorant when it comes to art but he was a very interesting bloke)
Yevgeny Zamyatin; We (the prelude to 1984, a brave new world etc subversive, original and well thought out sci-fi)

Someone should start a recommendations thread :dunno:
but i'm not organised enough to think through the best layout.....

Anyone into Haruki Murakami?
Can't recommend him enough! No matter what you normally read his books will hypnotise you.....

Sigh...
Well not much reading going on...
I'm now on a couple of debut novels;

The seven days of Peter Crumb by Jonny Glynn
The ignorant description would be a Brit American Psycho although the writing style differs vastly, along with the plot, morality and pretty much everything else.....
Its vicious and funny. Not finished it yet, but so far its acheived the always enjoyable trick of making me laugh out loud one minute and feel mildly disturbed the next, numerous times.
One for the more morbidly minded reader, and those who like books to be really felt (however grimly) not just read. NOT for the younger reader

Raw Shark Texts by Steven Hall
I only read it due to the reviews and hype that have surrounded it. Follow the link (title), i think many will enjoy it alot more than me.
Being a cynic when it comes to hype and also a lover of Haruki Murakami who Mr Hall obviously got a great deal of his ideas from, i probably didn't give it a fair chance.
I'd recommend it just for the fact you'll actually understand the film when it comes out. It plucks on pretty much all the favoured strings of recent popular culture, so will undoubtedly go down well with a wide spectrum of readers. Especially mid to late teens.
Plus it involves fish, conceptual ones.....

Captain Retardo, have you asked your library if they can do ILL's (Intra Library Loans)? If they don't have the books you are looking for you may be able to find them through other libraries. With my library, I just e-mail them the title and author and they fetch the book from wherever they can find it and let me know when it's at my local branch for pick up, then I drop it off their too. Just a thought.

I'm reading Songs of the Gorilla Nation - My Journey Through Autism by Dawn Prince-Hughes. Just started it this afternoon and it's an excellent read. I'm only on page 41 and I already know I would recommend it to anyone who knows someone with Asperger's or Autism or any interest in learning about people with these syndroms or even just to anyone who enjoys really good biographies.

Also reading Hour of the Hunter by JA Jance, getting my murder-mystery fix. I've got I is for Innocent by Sue Grafton waiting in the wings (not to mention about a dozen other library books).

Anybody read The Thirteenth Tale? I read it in December having borrowed a copy from the library and have added it to my "must get" list. I really need my own copy as I think it will be one of those books I read over and over.

JUst Finished:
Dont Tell Mummy BY TONI MAGUIRE
And as i bought 30 Deankoontz books that i have not read off ebay, starting to read them

Lightning and oldie by Dean Koontz. & Monstrous Regiment (for the umpteenth time) by Terry Pratchett.

now finished with ravens gate.

what did you think?

i liked it as a whole but i thought the ending was a bit weird

i thought it was good, but i have to agree, hte ending was quite....eh.....different. but overall, a good book. Now I am working on a book called"the Anybodys", i am in eigth grade, and i am the biggest reader in the school, so when we get new books, i read them even if they dont sound that good. This one is going to be a little weird. When i am done, ie probably tommorow, i will rate it out of 1-10.

well over the next few months i will be reading The Road of The Dead by Kevin Brooks, Beast by Ally Kennen, Just In Case by Meg Rosoff, My Swordhand Is Singing by Marcus Sedgwick, A Swift Pure Cry (which i have just started) by Siobhan Dowd, and The Road Of Bones, by Anne Fine, but i dont think i have to read all of them (thank god  there are alot there). I am going to be reviewing them and putting forward my reviews for the Carnegie Book Award, which are presented to the Authors and we (as in me and the other reviewers) will attend the Ceremony.

I did a similar thing last year for the Southern Schools Book Award, was really good.

i've not long finished the emperor series by conn iggulden gonna start conquerer soon

Finsihed the anybodies, it was excellent, i have read nothing that can compare to this story( this type of genre( feeling of the story)). I am now working on a book called the shot, so that make take me 2 days, and then i will update you.

Well ever since Kurt Vonnegut died, I tried to get all his books that I haven't read yet from the library, so I soon hope to read Blubeard and Player Piano (because they are currently at my house), but I still have about 5 books from him that I haven't yet read, but want to,
