I always go for natural-looking, and I tend to think most fish look best with dark-colored substrate and/or background. Other than that, the only hard-and-fast rule is to avoid clown-puke gravel at all costs.

I prefer to refer to it as a tasteful and artistic blend of pink , green , yellow , blue and red .

Why?

Fish will adjust their colours to the surroundings, so their colouring will be deeper. With a decent LED, the green of natural plants will really pop, as will reds. I like a tank where you barely notice it - where the living things inside grab the eye. So while my colour scheme may sound boring, it isn't about the tank, but rather the fish and plants.

I agree. My 20 gallon long has black sand whereas my 60 gallon has beige sand. While the fish in both tanks are beautiful, the fish in the 20 gallon really pop. I have black vinyl on the backside of both tanks.

Just got out of virtual court. I was able to plead my 4 point ticket down to no points. They first offered 2 points, but I negotiated a little and got no points. Higher fine, but insurance won't go up.

So umm... As you can see today I've been shopping on amazon, and trying to plan stuff with my tank, but I keep seeing weird stuff...
