Total Betta Tank Revamp- Natural Tank

Currently there's some ghost shrimp chilling in the tank. Going to set up a shrimp tank when I move into my new apartment in August.

I've decided that I want to switch filters. So I grabbed my HOB filter that I had for an old 10 gallon designed for a 5-10 gallon tank and threw it in. Put a little filter floss in the intake which brought the current down well. Currently it's running alongside the canister filter, gonna let the bacteria build up in the filter before I let it go on it's own. Will have to do some alterations on the tank hood once the filter cycles up so it can fit where the other filter is, unless I decide to keep it in the middle of the tank.

Benefits of this HOB:
Not in the way whatsoever. Pleasing to the eye.
Better filtration, better water turnover rate
Quieter
More space
Can top off the tank!

Still going to keep the canister, it's served it's purpose well. probably will use it in some future tank, maybe even the shrimp one if I decide to upgrade the tank (which I'm considering) from an ancient 2 gallon to, say, a new 5 gallon or something.

Also rearranged some things, which I'm sure will change again once I remove the canister filter, haha.

ETA:
Pulled out the canister and shoved the canister's filter pack in with the new filter. Should help get the bacteria to build up faster.

Pics as soon as I'm done fooling around with the scape again.

Took a nice vacation, allowed the tank to run and get all the beneficial bacteria off the old filter cartridge.

Came home to some algae growth (blah. I had forgotten to turn off the light, so it was getting full light for 3 days..) but a crazy amount of plant growth. I'm sort of liking the jungley look.

Fish and shrimp are alive and well. :D And now what you've all been waiting for, pictures!

CHEERS

The ghosts are doing fabulous. :D
Unfortunately I'm starting to have some algae problems (ugh!). It's like 2 different kinds in the tank. One is sporadically found on the acrylic, it's like a single short hair, and the other is like a bright green coat which was on the rocks when I came home (promptly scrubbed them like crazy). I have some miracle working algae killer, but blahhh, you can't use it with invertebrates.

This tank has come a ong way and it is truely amazing!! I love it and Oliver is such a cutie, dont you just love their little pugnasious faces?

I like the jungle look too. Your tank is great and ALL your fish & shrimp and BEAUTIFUL. Of course Oliver is just AMAZING. Every time I see a picture of him, I am just in awe. Keep 'em coming...

Thank you! I'm in the process of figuring out what to do for a 10 gallon setup. It will look similar but obviously be bigger and have a different "showcase" fish. Also the clown plec will be happier. :D

Their faces are irresistible! Grumpy little goobers.

Thank you very much! I really appreciate it. I work very hard for it to look as good as it possibly can. :D
I will keep everyone updated on the tank, of course. And will throw in some info on how the 10 gallon comes along while I'm at it, I suppose. :p

Worst day ever in regards to the tank. ;-;

So I'm doing a water change and notice Oliver's calmer then he usually is during a water change. I inspect him and see some fin rot on his dorsal fin. D: Crap. Well, it's not bad, should clear up in a week or so. :/

So I set up my hospital tank with some water, Melafix, and aquarium salt, and put him in. And once he's in I freak out because I remember, of all things to forget, I FORGOT DECHLORINATOR.

So I scoop him out and throw some water conditioner. But now I'm freaking out. Will there be permanent damage from this? He was in the dechlorinated water for about a minute. I'm devastated. He's just hanging around, I think he's in shock. ;-;

Oh hunny thats terrible :(

I don't think a minuit of exposure will have done him much harm and bettas are hardy little things.

I'm sure he'll be ok and just needs some time to calm down keep us updated on the little guy and good luck!

OOOOOOOOOOOhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... I feel so bad for him. Hes beautiful
