Tina's Nano Journal

I read the pinned article by stealhealr and looked at recommeded numbers, presume he talks in US gallon.
What do think to

(1 snail /1-2g = 12-24)

thats a lot of snails if you go with this rule, in a new tank choose the lower number (you don't want them to run out of food)

6 Turbo snails
6 Cerith snails

I have about 6 in my 26 gallon (two of them are big!), they do a good job

at a later date 6 nassarius snails

Got about 10 in my tank, maybe more

(1-2/3-5g )

3 red leg hermits

Got four in my tank - mostly blue legs with one red leg (he was an accident)

add a few others at later date

1 cleaner shrimp
1 fire shrimp
sexy shrimp

I have two fire shrimp and two peppermint shrimp - put the fire shrimp in after the snails, but didn't wait long

Would like to add the fire shrimp ? can I do this yet?

Put your snails and hermits in first, then test the water

Maybe later add Emerald or porcelain crab

Trod has an emerald crab and she wishes she hadn't bought it - has given her loads of rock falls

Later add some brittle stars.

Cant remember how big your tank is, sorry, so will not comment

Does this sound a good plan

All planning is good - just be prepared to change your plans

Reet I will drop the numbers slightly on the snails, and go for a few more on the nassarius. I think I will see what lfs says about the shrimp and probably pay for it and collect a few days later.

The tank is 20g UK, am not sure about brittles at all now. I remember reading about trods rock falls now, think I will go with the porcelain unless anyone has any concerns over this.

This is why I am trying not to plan too far ahead, and why I only just decided which CUC I wanted. I hate to keep changing my mind, so waited until I was sure before posting, will always listen to people more experienced though, want to keep mistakes to a minimum.

Did you see the earlier post about the mandarin seffie??

The other thing is are your 2 fireshimp ok together, have read they are ok with a mate (hermaphrodites so no need to sex) but may not play nice with other fire shrimps??
Is there any particular reason you went for blue legged over red or was that a preference, I was told (LFS so could be wrong) that the blues are more likely to trample over corals than the reds??

Cool, yes - sorry forgot to reply - was a little irritated as I had emailed TMC asking about tank bred mandarin and they said they didn't have any  would you be good enough to ask if they would post out by over night courier , that is if you think they are nice fat ones :good:

Mine have been fine - but that doesn't mean they all will be - they hide a lot more than other shrimps, only really coming out to feed or clean my hand :good:

They appear to be better munchers that's all - as long as they have a supply of shells they will leave the snails alone :good: as for crawling on corals, sometimes they do and sometimes they don't, in fact I would say my large red legged does most of tramping over corals

Definately fat, will be going tommorrow to sort snaails etc so will ask I will also ask to see it/them feeding aswell. If not, week before easter we have to get our other dog from andrews mom and dad in wolverhampton so we could prob sort something out. I think to be honest TMC just want to supply trade so will prob fob you off as it is too much trouble, they are used to sending large orders out.

Great about the fire shrimp, I knew they hid a bit more but the colour for me is worth it. I have lots of hols in the rocks for it to make its home aswell

I think I put the wrong name for the red legged, they are I think scarlet hermits (they are the smaller ones anyway), will definately be getting extra shells.

Thanks alot for your help with that :thanks:

Todays water stats

the best photos of a tank are always taken in complete darkness without any other light sources, you can get some great pics then ;)

PS I have had the facet joint injections - they are a breeze and worth every second on the table - I then went on to have my nerves burnt - they did that twice, would highly recommend if the injections don't work :good: my back hasn't been this good in years :good:

I am quite gutted as there were two books, one for each day (today, tommorrow). It will definately happen when he is at work.

I am pretty good with injections, had to have them in my neck and head a few yrs ago after multiple car accidents (none my fault either) so am not too worried. Apparently the leg part is more rare but with the physio and hydrotherapy should get there. Have looked at info on the burning, knowing my luck will end up having that done too, don't mind though anything to get me back to work. Will be getting my own chair and lots of ergonomic stuff to help me do job and as it was an accident at work they will have to give me a car park space right outside the lab!!

Nice to hear from someone whos had it done though, reassurring thanks.

Okay Truck just for you here are some more pictures.

Please excuse the quality, wanted to show different lighting rather than detail except the first pic of my diatoms, which are multiplying by the second

Hi
Seffie, really sorry to tell you but the mandarins (2x striped) had already been sold, I am not surprised as they were really fat. There is a spotted left but that is much thinner and much smaller.

I asked the lady in the shop if the shrimp would be ok added or if I needed to wait a few days. She told me I could add it and as I was sceptical she said if anything happened to it she would replace it for me she was that confident it would be ok. Needless to say I went for it and the fire shrimp came home with me.

Drip acclimatizing Hermits - I bought 2 scarlet.

One Turbo snail in-situ - I bought 3 for now, may add a few more.

I presume you will work out where the naming is going!!

EDIT forget to say, late last night after nitrite dropped to 0, (nitrates 10) I did the water change, was alot easier than I expected.

Forgot to say there is 4 Cerith snails aswell
