thinking about moving on...

The exact reason why 96 bots have read your post before any members. It's already evaluating the validity and interest level it will succeed to accomplish.

AI is sucking up on forums like nothing else.

Why... There's references... And 56 ways to triangulate the validity of everything said across the board.

I admit the site lost a couple of their "big mouths" that I really enjoyed reading. But they left traces of hope of coming back or gave really good reasons to take a break.

Being tired of not winning a contest was really low on that bar. And the way I feel it, people vote to their "heart" and many encourage new comers. That's pretty welcoming attitude...

As a good early GenX I will try to link the minding gap between Both Boomers and Z-2K's. In a simple manner.

First the approbation level, (what follows is a comedic reproduction of what I think) But I have a good sense of both. loll.

You really say something out of range. (Anything).

Boomer: Blacklist
X,Y: might give a like to let you know you have thinking food
Z++: gives a like for only acknowledging reading and might blast you off on next post.

You have to live with your time. Some pop up only for acknowledgement and never come back.

Other get told exactly what they don't want to ear and never comes back.

Gen-X checking in...

I miss the days of saying what was on your mind and the absence of political correctness. At least you always knew where you stood.

My biggest problem these days is in fact work. When I was coming up and someone told you to go grab a wrench from the truck and you went walking back to the truck there was another wrench flying by your head because you weren't moving fast enough. Work ethic was different and you learned fast or you were run off.

Tell me what's on your mind, teach me these lessons because I wanna know. Just give me the facts and don't worry about my feelings. Yea I come off as rough around the edges and yea idc if you are offended but those that aren't are my people and have all of my respect. That's Gen-X and Boomer mentality imo and I embrace it 100%

Contests equal people's opinion nothing else. We all have different taste and it's ok. Toughen up or hole up thats how I was taught.

Lot of tough old buzzards on here and some not so much.

Glean what you want/need and ignore the rest @Magnum Man. I appreciate your content and hope you continue with it as your availability allows. My .02

Raised by boomers and they where kicking a** and showing harshly how to do it yourself on the daily. The generation before them where the roughest man I ever seen. But they where getting things done like beasts.

At 16 you had a car a job, going to school, you where able to operate large agricultural machinery, sawmills and everything in a tool shop. Repair your car yourself, and put out the trash, do the freaking lawn, way before been ask for. Because it could get sour.
You where absolutely responsible and accountable for every foolishness you did. And punished, is a very, very light word to describe what happened to you. ( I cant post pics of my butt on a family friendly forum ) But there's still today, a belt buckle stamped there. You would understand the message really quick.

But still you could play with anything you wanted, fire arms, explosives, dune buggy's, dirt bikes, catapults, I mean we made a Ballista with a pickup suspension, that could trow 3 foot rebar pieces further that you want to go to get them back... Loll...

But anything foolish happened, like killing a cow or worse a friend... Would have signed your death sentence right there and probably disappeared in nature for ever before anything is known.

So we kinda where like Auto-Preventing death threatening foolishness things to happen. loll. But Left unsupervised chaos was always imminent.

My old man called the beatings we got as "snapping you outta your 💩"

Ever been shot by a nail gun? I have. Ever been slapped with an air hose? I have..Ever been smacked with a 2x4? I have....lol

My kids play outside more than all the other kids in the neighborhood, its by design. Tablets and phones have been broken in this house more than a few times..

No... Because the only way to have escaped a death sentence is if: "I was the guy holding the gun".

And... I'm more precise than that.

Actually there have been people that have survived nail gun head wounds that should not have done so. Here is one case:

My kids got jobs as soon as it was legal for them to do so - but they kept it under control and didn't let it ruin their school work. You have to learn how to deal with the power dynamics and with the real world - that's part of any education. I remember talking with an aquarium store owner who mentioned that when kids applied for jobs, if they hadn't had a part time job at 16, he didn't even consider them as they would be real world immature.

My kids are both better educated then I am, and both have interesting jobs.

I consider street smarts to be a key skill. I learned a lot of things that were very useful to me from going to a tough school and meeting people from all over. It was occasionally painful, but if you're smart enough to get a read on situations, very eye opening. Protected home school kids were fresh fish in that world, and it must come as a shock when (or if) they go into the outside world.

The jobs I did taught me skills with steel, paper, wood, paint (cars never interested me) and most importantly people and fish. I never did much reno or used nail guns, though I have a busted tooth from carelessly prying door frames off with a crowbar when I was 16. My first real job was demolition of a world's fair site. I helped completely smash up a fake Greek village inside a pavillion.

There are teenagers out there who live the same basic lives we did, with more technology. I think we overstate the generational differences. I say that as a retired teacher who spent a lot of time with kids who were finding their ways.

There were a lot of really crappy things growing when I did (just after the boomer wave), just as there are now. We have more in common than what divides us.

I am bootstrapped. My father never graduated high school and he made it clear to me at a young age that if I wanted to go to college I would have to get a job and hope for a scholarship. So I obtained my first part time job at the age of 15. I worked my way through high school, college and medical school. Luckily a scholarship paid for a portion of my tuition. I’m 72 years old and still hold a part time position at the university.

I think we have the toy manufacturer thing. It seems to me every generation designs the toys it wanted and didn't have for the kids being born. It makes toy shopping fun for parents, though when I go to stores now, as an old geezer, the toys are uninteresting. "My toys" were made 30 plus years ago, and kids play with different things in a slightly different society now. I don't 'get' them. That's okay, because they aren't for me.

@Ceez and @MaloK I’m 69 years old and I totally get what you guys are saying about the work ethic and responsibility and punishment . The last job I had before I retired almost got me fired several times because I would rip those punks a new one (verbally) almost every day . I actually made one kid cry and he was over twenty years old . I couldn’t believe the stuff that employees these days get away with . Any of the things they did would have gotten you canned on the spot when I was starting out . And punishment . . . oh boy let me tell you what . My old man was a retired Navy Boatswain’s Mate and me and my little brother better do EXACTLY what he told us to do , WHEN he told us to do it or there would be immediate and painful consequences and there were . Starting out in printing in 1974 those old guys , all of them WWII and Korea vets , would hound you and shame you mercilessly if you were a slacker and if they couldn’t get through to you they made sure you were gone . They had pride in their work and pride in themselves as craftsmen and you better have too or they didn’t want you around . Why did this stop ? Who dropped the ball ?
