thinking about moving on...

This could easily slip into a FrankenTank contest.

When I think "Out-of-the-Box" in fish keeping... My first thought, is a fish that jumped, dried on the floor.

I would call it progress instead, pushing the walls of the box to create more space.

So the fishes doesn't jump out ;)

I love new ideas and Magnum inspired another little thing I will certainly exploit very soon.

I also thought about some more contests that could become very interesting, I would love to see a "Specialty Breeder Tank" and a "Goldfish" contest.

Loll.

Well , I wouldn’t want to see a contest where people were deliberately making up a purposely ugly aquarium for laughs . It should be as an acknowledgement that some aquarium’s are working tanks and not display tanks and that a layman would observe that “ it’s not very pretty “ .
A specialty breeder tank ? That would be a good contest because I think there is a large group of TFF members who don’t do that and might be inspired to branch out if they saw a few .

Depending on what you are breeding. Some can be pretty atrocious to look at.

They are made with function in mind to accomplish specific goals. And maintain a specific water chemistry. Besides other physical conditions that are not often regarded as decorative.

But... If you slow down and study a little what is accomplished...

They become beautiful and reveal the skills you need to master to reach that point.

And Also as a breeder, I would nearly want to keep it secret ;)

Forums are an old ideology that the over 35 crowd enjoys but the under 35 crowd has little use for. Social media has taken their place in larger part but they can't replace the reference points and easy access to information a forum provides.

Forums need people like you. You make new threads all the time, you provide topics that others may or may not have interest in but...youre laying the foundation for people who are interested in that particular topic to chat it up. Usually Forums have a core group of hard-core participants and a population of migrant posters who are fleeting but add from time to time. Without the foundation this place wouldn't last a week. Youre part of the fabric.

Ive also participated in a few of the contests but as with anything else it's not about the quality of your tank/pet/fish, it's truly a popularity contest. Don't take it to heart. I don't post to make friends necessarily but to engage in the discussion from my point of view and experience (experience wise theres so many much more qualified people here lol) and to learn things i need to know. So sometimes having a different viewpoint/opinion may not settle right with others or with the "popular" crowd which may lose you votes in future contests if you get what I'm saying. I've seen some of the winners who weren't deserving but again because of their popularity on the forum they did and quite honestly that's normal in everyday life. Don't be bothered by it. You do what you do for you right? I don't do it for attaboys and this paragraph right here will be seen as unpopular by more than a few i guarantee

Regardless, i love forums like these and am grateful for everyone that contributes to keep them alive and well in whatever capacity they choose to do so. Sometimes a break is needed to rejuvenate the desire. Summer is coming and you have a lot to do. Just don't forget about us, I for one want to see how your projects go!

The exact reason why 96 bots have read your post before any members. It's already evaluating the validity and interest level it will succeed to accomplish.

AI is sucking up on forums like nothing else.

Why... There's references... And 56 ways to triangulate the validity of everything said across the board.

I admit the site lost a couple of their "big mouths" that I really enjoyed reading. But they left traces of hope of coming back or gave really good reasons to take a break.

Being tired of not winning a contest was really low on that bar. And the way I feel it, people vote to their "heart" and many encourage new comers. That's pretty welcoming attitude...

As a good early GenX I will try to link the minding gap between Both Boomers and Z-2K's. In a simple manner.

First the approbation level, (what follows is a comedic reproduction of what I think) But I have a good sense of both. loll.

You really say something out of range. (Anything).

Boomer: Blacklist
X,Y: might give a like to let you know you have thinking food
Z++: gives a like for only acknowledging reading and might blast you off on next post.

You have to live with your time. Some pop up only for acknowledgement and never come back.

Other get told exactly what they don't want to ear and never comes back.

That's the "problem"

When I was a kid... You where messing the most with the one you loved. And it was harsh.

There was always a "fundamental" truth expressed in these and it brought the other to roughfully understand "a message".

I mean the parents where a lot more squared when explaining things.

I have entered a couple of aquariums that finished with dust, and rightfully so. My photos are poor, my scapes are pre-novice.

I also entered Buster a couple of times. Now to me he is a winner, but I am unoffended that others thought him an also ran. Pictures do a poor job of conveying personality and to give him his best chance would require I have my phone or camera on me at all times. Not happening!

Magnum, I do not think your tanks ugly, I think them very nice but also very niche. Niche does not lend itself to popularity contests.

Some day we should have an ugly aquarium and ugly fish contest. @Magnum Man would be shut out there, because his tanks are nice and his fish are nicer, but @Back in the fold and I would be battling on that one.
No need for an ugly fish contest as this beastie wins hands down. ;)
