They've Spawned!!!!

and once again.. you make me so very jeleous of your fish.. congrats on the continued success with these rare black aeneus.. i have yet to hear of anyone in canada who has these guys.. weird considering how easy you seem to make it to spawn and raise these guys.. what's the chance of more pics.. i just can't get enough of the pics of these guys.

p.s.
what else have you gotten spawning in your tanks in regards to rare corys?

Thanks madattiver! :)

These beauties are every bit as easy to spawn as the bronze. They are so prolific that I'm sure they will be available all over in a year or two. I've already seen them turn up in a lfs.

I just wish I had the tank space to raise more of them in. I just hate to part with the fish I've raised from tiny fry and keep them longer than I probably should, so most of their eggs go to waste. :/ I have a few small Gold Shoulder C. aeneus and I expect these will become more readily available soon too. Other than that, I just have some pandas and my F1 bronze babies in my tanks.

Oh, one of my corys has been spawning, but I can't figure out which ones they are. I just can't catch them at it, and I've been given 3 small batches already. It's either long finned C. paleatus or C. similis, since they are both in the same tank, but they are both kind of small yet. I guess I'll have to save some and raise them to find out.

Wow Inchworm. Well I've just joined the list of jealous people  I was instantly in love  . Great work on raising so many fry. They are absolutely gorgeous. We have 6 bronze and 5 pandas as well as a baby tank full of bronze fry. :) Wish we could find some black cory's, but we've never seen them at the 3 LFS's we visit  Keep up the great work :D

They are so cute. I love cories because they are just so cute and they get cuter when there is more and more of them. p.s. to love fish, who hasn't been trained expertly in the field of livebearers by anna, I have :D and I  her for that

Good news, after all this time. The little fry are all grown up! Yesterday I found the first batch of eggs from these fry that hatched just over 14 months ago. :D

While most of the original fry have grown up and gone to their new homes, I still have a few in their grow out tank. They are not yet completely grown and are still smaller than the members of the original spawning group, but they seem to have matured enough to give me a group of about 24 eggs. I found them (of all places!) on a leaf that was floating along on the top of the tank. Since they are the only kind of fish in the tank, the eggs have to be theirs.

After I took this picture I transfered the eggs to the side of a container for hatching. This morning they still looked sound, but since I don't know exactly how old they were when I moved them, I won't be too surprised if they don't hatch.

The important thing is that I can now answer the question of how long it takes these fish to mature. :D

Congrats, Inchworm.

My bronze still give me a baby without any help at all every once in awhile. So far the tank is stable, but I worry about the load when a new bronze shows up.

My peppers (Rocky Balboa and friends) leave clutches regularly, but so far as I know none have survived to maturity in the community tank.

I moved some tanks the other day and a cory (Virginiae Sangama) managed to get in the syphon without being noticed and got transfered to the community tank. He just sits there in his proper ruffled collar and stares accusingly at me. But of course if I try to catch him he takes off. Rather than join the peppers he plays with the dario Botia (queens). Silly little bird.

The white and black tank of small cories has done very well. None have been lost. The pandas are happier since the beta passed, and they swim around more.

EDIT: Oops! The escaped cory is the Pulcher variant #3.

Thank you for all your replies and complements. :D

I'll take some pictures and add them to this thread within the next few days.
