The TFF General Aviation Thread (those things with wings)

Aviation is cool...by second-favourite passion, next to Nature.
Books and reading.
Airshows.
Museums.
Scale modelling.
Even spending aeons atop Manchester Airports piers, watching the planes come and go and, in my yoof, collecting their numbers.

Actual flying?
Only freefall parachuting, parascending and paragliding and gliding...but then I left Scouting and the money ran out. :(

Well for me flight is my main hobby/duty I love props turbo props and small business jets

I’m less of a fan of big passenger aircraft and big companys like Boing , Airbus , BA , Ryanair , Jet2 ect
I don’t agree with some of there procedures , training routines and the corners they try to cut

Other hobbies include Tropical Plants and gardening as well as Mediterranean Food and Cooking

I'm a plane nut.

Wanted to join the RAF and train to become a flightline engineer but was stopped by mother who stated it was no job for a girl (so I went into truck driving and towercrane placement instead)

But I have been an avid and active researcher in aviation accidents for around 40 years or so. I have accident reports from NTSB, AAIB and other authorities each month and once sort of assisted in the discovery of why/how a specific accident happened.

Before I lost the ability to travel, you could find me at airshows all over the country on my Honda CB900F2B

I love flying....when a teenager and still at school I had a Saturday job at Rogers Aviation, Cranfield with the wonderful Bob Walker & Ron Campbell, both "old school" instructors, Ron wrote many many manuals for AOPA which I still have somewhere. I never took lessons due to finances sadly but it was a wonderful time :)

Oh Wow what a shame your parents didn’t allow you to pursue the RAF 😔

Canfield I’ve been over a few times but never landed there.

Have you heard of Mentour pilot Before?

He is an active Commercial Pilot but also a Youtuber

he covers alsorts of aviation related matters , problems and even air crash investigations

I’ve watched many of his videos there quite good well edited ect

At the moment I find myself doing a lot of simulated flights or watching flight videos just to keep my mind on the ball

Tbh I am not someone who uses YT very often and when I do its only to get a soundtrack to play whilst doing housework, so no he is not known to me.

One of my favourite pastimes when at Cranfield was going to Compton Abbas or Le Bourget for a bacon sarnie when bored....a couple of the regular pilots would "borrow" a 172 Skyhawk for the day and I would tag along....

Oh YouTube is so much more than that haha :)

you do have to filter through loads of rubbish to find good documentary’s but they’re there somewhere

Mentourpilot’s videos are all fact based true to reality documentarys real flight video or aviation related problems and issues

In many ways fish are similar to planes the way they move certain fins to get different angles or propel them forward and backward with the help of the other natural forces in the tank

Similar to how planes move using three different axis controlled by pieces of metal on hydraulics that move around to create differences in the aerodynamic field around them

I am a huge WWII geek, and I am especially interested in the aircraft. The sound of a Rolls Royce Merlin engine is like no other sound in the world.

I'm a HUGE fan of WWII fighter and bomber aircraft...built MANY models of them as a kid, and flew a few of them...anyone remember balsa wood and tissue paper skinned models? (showing my age here)

A couple of my all-time favorites, but loved them all

Well, well before my time. ;)
Took a bit more skill to build these, over the plastic type...had alot of fun with them, my Dad (born 1928) built them, as well
