The Start Of My New 12 Uk Gallon Nano Reef

Looking good :)
I cleaned front and sides and left the back for the snails to clean up, otherwise it will soon end up like a bad pair of stained net curtains..lol
When your ammonia has been statice at 0 for a few days then get some serious clean up crew. Snails hermite etc but no shrimp just yet.
But everything looks on track and settling nicely :)

thanks for the advice on what to do...was thinkin about cleaning it earlier as it doesnt look to pretty but fort i should ask first to be sure......hopefully might be able to get some cleanup crew at weekend if ime lucky.

hey craig if you copy the IMG into your post then you wont have to click on links to see the picture :)

little update on tank stats for you all.....think i may be ready for some clean up crew now

SG/Salinity stands at 1.023
ph between 8.3
Ammonia 0.00 ppm
Nitrate 0 ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
tank temp 81 F

So the tanks been set up 2 weeks now so would u say it was ready for a few clean up crew?? and if so how many and what sorts to get??

thanks

after 2 weeks mien had cycled too, i put in a few scarlett hermits and snails. no shrimp or anything liek urchins/sea stars yet since there more sensitive.

Yup you need a good selection of snails, hermits etc to try and cover every differnt type of future algae Issue. I have 3 different types of snails and 3 differnt types of hermits, some live in the gravel, some like the rock and some clean the glass :) My tank sparkles

things have changed slightly now.....went to our local carboot this morning not intending to buy anything and i stumbled across what i fort was a bargain....price started at £50 and i got it for £35 as i knew the people selling it didnt realy wanna load it back in the car an take it back home so i made a silly offer ha ha ha.

anyway heres a pic of the tank

tank come with a fluval 3 plus pump/filter and a 150 watt visi-therm heater and the tank is made my marina i think as on the the tank lid its got a sticker saying that on it....not to sure on tank capacity but it measures at 760mm wide 380mm tall and 320mm deep.

let me know if u think i got a bargain.

and i think my tank will be staying as it is for a little while as i will have to transfer everything from the current tank into this once i have it all set up.

That comes out at 92litres of just over 20g uk :) I just bought 2 of these just very slightly smaller of e.bay like new for £46 but dont have anything with them. So yes it looks like a pretty good bargain. and I will be having to do the same thing as you , shifting it all over :( once I get all the bits for the other tank sorted.

ime pleased with the deal i have a rekord 96 tropical tank aswell ans its just a bit smaller than that in size. had a quick look on ebay and the equipment on there comes to about £50 along so in shops prob looking between £60 - £70.

just gotta have a sort around in my room now to get this tank in place of the current tank and then have the fun of changing it all over hmmmmmmmmmmm guess ill be spending more money on this tank with live rock, live sand etc etc and also gotta build 2 cabinates at work for tanks to sit on as ime going to move my tropical tank aswell but that wont cost me anything as ime i get the materials from work.

The things we do for fish hey gotta love it.

help ime stuck what to do.....got a couple of pics of the tank as it is now as everything is realy hairy with some kind of algea ime guessing.

If you have read previous post from a few days ago i brought a bargain of a tank and will hopefully be getting it set up in its new location once i have built the cabinate for it to sit on....will the tank be ok as it is until the weekend when i can get some clean up crew for it?? hopefully if all goes well during the week i will get the cabinate built and both tanks moved (marine and tropical)

also at a later date can i add more live rock (about 5 kilos) without upsetting the tank stats to much??

Second problem is after lights out last night i knowtised what i fort was lots of dust in the tank but when i turned the light on i knowtised the inside of the front glass of the tank is covered and i meen covered in tiny little bug things does anyone know what they are??

Your bugs are pods of one dicription or another :) and you have been very lucky to get so many so soon, I still dont see any in many tank for some strange reason. They will be excellent food for when you get your fish :)
The Hair algae dont worry about too much. I would get a load of dwarf blue legs and a Spiny Astralium
snail to clean it up, I dont have any in my tank as it never gets a change to grow due to the clean up crew :)
Get your critters here..
Reef Critters
I got mine there I got the 12 mini blue legs and he sent 15 all are great an munching on alage like no tomorrow.
Also..
Snails
You can get all your clean up crew there. All mine survived and are doing well.
Moving them later should not be so much of an issue, as long as you keep an eye on water stats and do changes regular if needed. But I would get some crew sorted soon or you are going to be over run with hair alage and once it takes over it will slow down everything else trying to grow on he rock and will take weeks for the clean up crew to get on top of.
Adding rock again wont be an issue as long as you keep on top of tests etc. It will no doubt produce a mini cycle but with live rock this will be short lived . Just test daily and do water changes until things are stable again.

Dont buy any shrimp of any kind for clean up until you have moved and settled tanks. I would add them the same time as your first fish.

hi craigybaby,

i noticed that you are using a juwel aquarium, is this a rekord 60?
I will be using a rekord 60 for my nano reef but anyway, have you removed the black box that holds the filter etc? because on your latest pictures i cant see it.

Nice tank by the way, i like how you've arranged the tank

Have you just added rock, water, sand, salt and left the stats to get to the levels they are or have you added anything like ammonia like in a fishless cycle?

in reply to fishkeeperpro yes the tank is a jewel rekord 60 but soon to change to a 20 UK gallon in the next few days when i have built the new cabinate for it to sit on. i have now removed the black box with heater filter etc its just the angle of the picture that chops it off lol but i am using the existing pump that come in the tank but with some different filter media and it seems to be working fine along with the powerhead......and yes all i have added to the tank is live rock, water, sand and salt and left it to do its thing i added no ammonia or anything.

And in reply to littleme1969 ime glad to hear the little bugs are gd things to have ill have a look on the website and see what i can find. thanks for all your advice on everything........and one other thing the powerhead you are using in your tank (the adjustable interpet one) did you buy it from the internet as i can seem to find them and if possible could you post a link to somewhere i can buy 1???

thanks
