The Start Of My New 12 Uk Gallon Nano Reef

A glass scraper? Thats why I paint my background black... Dont have to worry about it getting dirty

Fireshrims do exhibit cleaning behavior although skunk cleaners do it more often

i do have a scraper yes lol......i suppose once i have cleaned the glass and equipment like heater an pump etc the cleanup crew should keep it under controll a little more am i right???

would u recommend me adding anymore types of cleanup crew like more snails or anything like that??

I was just wondering, as you live in east anglia, (i think you mentioned that, sorry if i'm wrong), where do u get ur marine fish and clean up crew from?

sorry for a double post

yea i live in suffolk which is east anglia....i get my marine stuff all from swallow aquatics in east harling they have got 4 other branches and also a website which will tell you where other branches are the address is www.swallowaquatics.co.uk you cant shop online yet but it will be there soon

finally got my calcium test kit through the post today....seems a little weird how u do it. you have 3 bottle of addative and you add 5 drops of number 1 an 3 drops of number 2 and for every drop of number 3 u put it it represents 20ppm of calcium and you keep adding drops until it all turns from bright pink to bright purple....seems odd that you dont have any colour chart to go by but hey

anyways my results come out at about 340ppm so needs a little boost what shall i use to get it around the 400 - 450ppm??

most calcium if not all tests uses titration, since there cant be a color for every single 20, that would be a big color chart.

ahhh i see handy piece of info to know.....never fort about how big the colour chart would be lol........can i add some sort of calcium buffer to get it between 400 - 450 ppm???

small update for you all..........got my calcium levels upto 440ppm so thats all good mind you there prob a little bit lower as ive done a water change today......how do you people go about keeping a constant calcium level??

got myself a fire shrimp yesterday and also my first coral frag....at least i think its classed as a coral though its more plant like lol ill get a few pics up tomoz for you to look over.

i drip kalkwasser to keep my calcium up (around 400) i also have some kent marine calcium if i need a lot of calcium at once.

things are certainly changing in the tank now......ime starting to get some redy purple coloured algea growth on the back glass of the tank. i had a look on the internet and its looking to be some kind of coralline algea if ime right...which i am probably not lol and the rocks are getting very colourfull aswell with lots of green, white, purple and red patches on them which ime also hoping is a sign of a maturing tank.

one quick question.......every 3 to 4 days ime gettin a realy big build up or diatoms on the glass...i have currently got 6 hermits and 2 turbo snails in the tank along with a fire shrimp would anyone reccomend more cleaners to keep the diatoms down????

thanks

Nah you just have to clean it!..lol dont be so lazy :)
I clean mine every day otherwise it can soon get all different types of growth that can be stuborn to get off.
Yes your coraline sound to be comming along nicely :) I just love all the different colours on my rock, seems a shame to cover it with coral realy.. ;)

yea thats the name i remember now lol.......quite nice to watch i think as its always pulsing...i was told it was spred its self round the tank and i will see bits growing everywhere before long????

wondering if u can answer me a little Q qith my fire shrimp.....i havnt propperly seen it out of the rocks for about 4 days now.....i know its still alive as it may move to the outside of its cave now and then but even at feeding time it just sits there and prob doesnt get any food.....when i first got it it was an active little fella and feeding time it went mad and grabbed the block of food and sat there pigging out on it until it had enough an then let it go????

any help would be much appreciated

all my other fish are fine and so is my coral so i dont have a clue to why its only the shrimp playing up???
