That stupid thing never works.
It goes by the "1 inch per gallon" rule.
It said my 5 Gallon overfiltered tank was overstocked with 3 cherry shrimp and a betta
I held my roomate's Sugar Glider as it panted away, took its last breath and crumpled up after what we can only assume it caught its leg on its nest and broke its backLucy, you're in the same position I was with Alpha. I know how you feel.
In hindsight, I really wished I'd ended his misery right then and there instead of putting him through 2 weeks of hell. He didn't deserve to go out like that. No living creature does.
If eventually you decide to send him on his way, put him in a plastic container with some water and a tight lid. Add some clove oil to put him into a painless sleep, then overdose to peacefully send him away.
If you're squeamish, cover the tub with a towel so you don't see him end. But I would watch him, and say my final goodbye.
Fish aren't dead until 15 minutes after the last gill movement. So keep him in there for at least 30 minutes.
Then respectfully bury him.
It's tough to hold or watch a pet go, I held my beloved cockatiel Maxie in my hands as she took her last breath and her heart stopped a few seconds later. To see the light go out is terrible, but at least I was there to comfort her on her way out.
I'm sorry about Oscar. He will never be replaced.
There's no emoticon to truly express how I feel
Thanks crossfire, you understand
I held my hamster George as he took his last breath, I was hysterical... Makes my eyes sting just thinking about it

Hahaha!!! When are you getting your new betta?

I will get a new betta when I get my blue pearl shrimp, and as soon as they start having babies and a few have made it to adulthood, I will try a betta.
I've decided to rescue one from a chain store, PetSmart or Petco. They have pretty ones there too, and even though the ones online and at my LFS are much healthier and prettier, I think I'll rescue a mutt. It will also be less embarrasing or a hassle to return him if he turns out to eat shrimp.
I've already decided on some names. To keep the tradition alive and in honor of Alpha, I will either name it
Epsilon, Omega, Theta, or Gamma
omg... I googled "Pink Jewel Tetras" and Crossfire's "I Love Kuhli Loaches!!!" Picture came up

If I google "Kuhli Loaches" it comes up too
I'm famous
If you google Pink Jewel Tetras, a picture of my tank as well as a picture of one of my Kuhlis with a caption "Draw me like one of your french girls" comes up as well
