Nah, she just ate a lot. Can't be pregnant so soon, as her fry was born just last week. o_O

@Ruskull
I don't know, I see a lot of people having no problem with male bettas, but a looot of people losing female bettas left and right.

Hey Lovelies!
Found one of my sparkling gouramis dead this morning.
In my bigger tank I noticed one of my platys has a torn tail. Hmmmm, I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the betta, though I've been spying on him and he seems ok.
Nice big water change and a right old clean on both tanks today.
Not much else to report Lovelies.......
Betta and gourami can clash. Esp sparklings, which are peaceful fish and will get attacked / bullied even by fish that are just greedy over food.
What kind of betta is it?
They're not in the same tank. I have the gouramis in a 10 gal and the betta is in the bigger community. I have no idea what kind he is. Platy is looking a bit sorry for herself.
Sorry about your poor fish Ruskull! :rip:

Post pic of the betta, could be easy to identify his type.

Oh Fishblast I'm hopeless at posting pics! I won't get a chance to try 'til tomorrow evening so I'll try then.
It would be dead handy as I have a fish in my ten gal that was sold to me as a sparkling gourami and it's the strangest looking sg I've ever laid eyes on! I'd love your opinion.

Oh, the gourami? Ok sure, maybe it's a croaking one.

Many of the wild caught Bettas look very similar to Sparkling Gouramis.......you may have gotten one of those by mistake? They are like cousins too.

 I watch that plus Jerry Springer & The Steve Wilcos show whenever I stay home sick........

Hey Ruskull.. I doubt they died because of the hardness. I have kept Bettas in Vases without filters at a PH of 8.2 and they lived 4-5 years. You seem to be having the same problems I am having these days with fish.

I am starting to really be jealous of all of the UK friends on here as they don't seem to have these problems. Every fish I get at "a chain store" you know the ones.....ends up showing signs of a disease within a week and I don't have other local suppliers. Parasites, velvet, ich, flukes, internal parasites....it has been endless. I can't buy a healthy fish. The bad thing is that a healthy fish won't get infected until last so you could introduce something and not know it for awhile. I just learned to shine a flashlight on my fish in the dark to find velvet.

It's sad to not be able to buy a fish in good condition. :(

It's strange though how these 2 females seemed all happy & energetic until about 2 days into it. In the store they survived in a tiny cup but when put into a nice big tank they died. Makes no sense at all. It would make more sense if the other fish showed signs of illness but they don't. Well I did have that evil Guppy go on a rampage but that's different. Again, it was only the Guppies that were being ripped up and those Guppies were a bit old themselves, probably too old defend themsleves against the evil younger Guppy. The Glowlight died of old age, it was almost twice the size of the other Glowlights.

I'm staring to think FishBlast has a point about the females not being as hardy as the males or maybe my water is just different than the water they were used to whether it's too hard, soft, etc.

I might actually try a male Betta since I saw an especially awesome Doubletail Halfmoon that was white & red for $10 and change at Petco. That would be my final try at the Betta Splendens though, at least for that tank anyway. How do you think he'd get along with my Bolivian Ram & the evil Guppy?

Idk, my experience with bettas was pretty nasty. Though it may have to do with them being a team, as no male was acting on its own when attacking my other fish. They helped each other like wolves.

Hey Lovelies - Lost 2 platy fry last night. One of them was smaller than the rest and I knew it was going to die, but one of the 6 remaining healthy ones died!? I can only think it must be water quality. Luckily it's water change day today - hooray!

I moved them to the breeding trap now as they are big enough so that they cannot slip out the sides. I am hoping this breeding trap will allow more water through.

Poor fry. :( RIP tiny fishies.

Ninja loves to scare me. This morning, I turned the lights on and he was nowhere to be found. I also saw a big Tzuppy poop there and thought he probably ate him.
I sprinkled some crushed flake at the surface, and before I knew it, Ninja appeared, out of nowhere, in the middle of the tank. o_O
Now he is sitting on the filter again, after a nice meal.

My 2 Hoplo catfish are currently surfing the sides of the breeding trap attempting to suck the fry out...

:stupid:
