The New Kids On The Block - 6 C. Atropersonatus

Hi all.

I just picked 6 of these up and the look quite nice. They are wild caught so this is going to be 'fun'.

In the quarantine tank:

This one was enjoying his blood worm (it's sticking out of his gill cover):

They seem quite healthy but I noticed a few had some clipped (not sure if that's the proper term) fins. I'm not treating the tank with anything and the lfs had them in quarantine for a week with no problems.

Tonight I'm going to see if they'll take pellets. I have my fingers crossed.

I still have a long way to go to catch up to Drewry, ICEEGRL, JollySue and the 'OTHERS'...

Cheers.

Ooohhhh Cory_Dad...they are super looking fish.....!

I want some!! :)

I have no idea how to get them here... :shifty: Maybe you could sneak to post office that would ship to here... :hyper:

Seriously though... They are really beautiful fish. I hope they do well for you.
Are you going to get white sand to go in their tank?

Gah! What is it with this white sand? My problem right now is what an I going to do with them once I take them out out of quarantine.

As for getting them to you, ya, that could be a problem. You're way on the west coast, aren't you?

Actually Amanda is in Louisiana. Send her some eggs. She sent me some plants wrapped in news print inside a sandwich bag with some eggs on it by Priority USPS. The eggs hatched in my net, and I have baby Corys. They are probably bronze, which I need ever so much! :p I am trying to convince myself that they will be a little different than mine and make a good addition. Now where can I put another C.aeneus holding tank?

As an aside, where is drewery?

I'm not sure how well that would work going across the boarder, free trade or not. Lately I haven't had much luck getting to hatch without the added stress that shipping them would cause.

Drewry's been hanging out on 5steady's forum. I log in most every day but there's not a lot of action there when it comes to Cory's.

fyi I'm making this a 4 day long weekend up at the cottage so I won't be around till probably Tuesday evening; it's Canada Day here on Tuesday.

Happy birthday Canada!

Cheers all.

:flowers:

This is not me with flowers; it is me waving the maple leaf!

Happy Birthday, Canada!

Have a pleasant get away.

Do you not have a tank for them to go into? Some how I thought you did. You need one of those stacking stands that will allow you to have several tanks and not take up much floor space. Those things are really good when you don't have much space. Some of them look really nice too. :good:

I was just asking about the white sand because it was suggested earlier. I personally think they would look really great on tahitian moon sand. It is black and sort of sparkles in the light. They would really stand out on that. Those fish would look good on anything though.

Keep us up on how they (and your others) are doing.

Hi ICEEGRL! Where have you been?

I was just kidding about the white sand comment. I too think they would look good with either white or very light colored sand. All my other tanks have smooth pea gravel but I have my eye on a 25 gallon for these guys. Where I'm going to put it has yet to be worked out. My wife just rolled her eyes when I told her about it and walked away mumbling something about me being an idiot or obsessed or crazy...

I can't envision them with black sand. I'd need to see it in a picture first.

Today when I was cleaning the tank I noticed one of them had fin rot so I did a +50% water change and have treated the tank with erythtomycin. The others look ok though so hopefully the EM will clear it up quickly. I suspect it's due to the 'crap' getting trapped in the floating moss in the tank rather than being filtered or siphoned out. My bad. The moss is now out of the tank.

Cheers.

Oops, I did it again...

I just brought home a 25 gallon for these guys. Although I'm not sure I'm ready for 'tahitian moon sand' but I am going to look for some smooth white or very light coloured sand.

Good thing my wife is in Minneapolis till Sunday...

Lucky you!! Hope those babies do well!

Well, my wife saw the tank and I'm still alive!

Her first comment when she saw the white silica sand in the tank and was told the tank was for the atropersonatus was "Wouldn't they look better against black sand?".

What is it with you women? Do you have your own Internet you communicate on to conspire against me?

Sheesh, I can never win.

Maybe she will be glad eventually that you have a nice hobby. It could be a lot worse with you fellas than a lil' ole 25 gallon tank....

BTW I figured out why I never get my sponge air pump filters going. I don't have conectors or tubes the right size for the spinge filter apparatus. And I can never figure out what I need. I have about 3 or 4 different size hoses and none fit and the little adapters are from another universe entirely!

The sponge filter tube is about .75" from outer edge to outer edge and 5/8" inner to inner edge.
