The Fashion House Birthday Nano Tank!

looking good.

In the pic below there is a hole I have pointed out, what was that for?
i think its a fail safe hole to allow the water in the chambers to be the same height as the main tank?
it just allows some flow from teh main tank if the weir were to be blocked for any reason.

does the external filter out pipe go from the first chamber and the return into the second?
Yes

Does the heater sit in the third chamber/ And how does it attach? If it does at all?
I just had it resting in there, i.e. not fixed (ensure it rests on the bottom and that it is covered by water at all times while in operation

Does the pump in the third chamber just sit in the bottom and it doesnt matter how or in any position?
yeah just sits in the bottom, doesn't matter how, but you'll find the best position by manouvering the pipe so it joins the outlet nozzle of the nano baffle plate.

How do you attach the korila to the tank?
there should have been 2 rubber type things attached to the back of it (they split apart and one part goes on the outside of the tank), which are magnetised.
i had it in the middle on the black baffle plate. i put the other half od the black rubber thing down into chamber 2 to hold it in place.

Thanks Rob, I managed to figure out the korila bit by pulling the what I thought was 2 suckers apart!

Its a great view Ben! Shame its empty till the 25th!

Live rock.....can not wait to do some rock watching! I LOVE gobies...really like the green clown gobt but I will maybe change my mind. I saw a double eye spot goby today...how cute! Maybe the traditional clowns, does anyone have any ideas on small fish rather than clowns?
Maybe a few softies, mushies, rics etc. Ohh and hermit crabs....are the blue ones really bad at eating snails though?
I am open to ideas really

green banded goby

my blue hermits ate my snails. But they are about the best crabs for munching. If i did my tank again though, id go snail only cuc

ooh I like! not a hard one to feed either by the looks of it and will be ok with other Gobies as is not aggresive! Nice find Ben!

Question - How do I attach the weir comb?
How much LR rubble Do I need for the external filter and again how much for the fuge at the back?
What size substrate and what type?

just my opinions:

How do I attach the weir comb?
The weir comb doesn't fix to anything. when the tank is full of water the pressure of it going through the weir holds it in place.
By moving the comb up and down the levels in the weir can be adjusted.

How much LR rubble Do I need for the external filter and again how much for the fuge at the back?
not a clue. 5kg? could be more, i'm never very good at estimating the weight of rock.

What size substrate and what type?
i think this is a personal choice, sand, fine gravel, crushed coral etc....

Ah I see! Thanks Rob.

Well today I have been and got a 30L home brewing bucket with water tight lid for transporting my LR (When I get it) also thought it would be useful come xmas time when I will have to move the tank as its in the only place the xmas tree fits!
Does anyone have any recommendations as to where to get water carriers from?

Also this morning while making my cup of tea at work I noticed someone had left a very large sweets container (like a mini brewing bucket, looks like it would hold 5L) as this is defo food safe it will be fish safe! So I took the stealth approach and nabbed it and its now hiding by my desk...people must think I have an alchol addiction with my 2 buckets next to me!

I have to buy a temp sensor of some sort too, which ones do people recommend? Digital, classic glass etc?
Also I am on the look out for some blue led strips....Jennybugs had posted an evilbay link on another forum but it is blocked here at work so I have no idea if they still sell them and how much for. Anyone have any recommended sellers of these?

And also while reading Jennybugs journal I have decided I really want a Sand Conch snail!

Ooops almost forgot to post my main question!

I have the Eheim External 2217 but have no idea how to set it up! All pipes are fitted and attached into the tank, I just have no idea how to get the water flowing through it...I know I have to suck on one of the pipes but which one and with filter on, of...help!
I also have 2 valves on each pipe these are all pointed up towards the tank is this correct?

Please could a god of Eheims help me!
