The Continuing Adventures Of Skifletch

Thanks for the well wishes guys, I need em now... The clownfish were still alive this morning although swimming around everywhere like lunatics. Not good. I'm gonna be really miffed if I loose the first 3 saltwater fish I ever had. F'ing parasite's a real bastard.

Matt, no this won't affect my enthusiasm for the hobby longterm. It's merely forcing my hand on future practices of quarantine. I can tell you this much though, it's gonna be months before I buy another fish just for fear of getting burned again. The feelings of loss both emotional and monetary will definitely keep me away from new fish purchases for a while.

I'm really gutted for you :(

Ich is bad enough in a freshwater tank, absolute nightmare for a marine setup. It's not really much of a consilation for you but it has convinced me to definetly use a QT tank.

Thats just really sad Ski :-( I lost my little clown just over a week ago too to the dreded ICH and I managed to treat within 12 hours of seeing the first spots :(
Hope the others pull through for you.
Thanks for the advise on the fish also :) it was much appreciated and the advise taken on board :)

Good to hear Barney. We all get into this with the best of intentions, and even those of us with those intentions and experience can still get burned... I hope everyone learns a lesson

Ok well weekend's end brings good and bad news... As expected, my female clownfish did not make it through the night :( but at least her partner survived and is looking much better. The pseudochromis is now spot-free and the male clownfish is also spot-free as are the remaining fish. Hopefully it remains that way over the week and we can start week 1 of the symptom-free quarantine.Oh, and Ter, one of the girls is lost but there is another ;)

Hi mate, just read your bad news - sorry mate!

Any idea of what fuelled the outbreak, was it a fish you bought which had active cysts?

Thanks guys, it's been tough but at least there's some light at the end of the tunnel.

Sophos9 - It appears that it was the C. Punctatus male that brought the outbreak in. He appeared fine in the LFS, spot free and even OK for about a week before the first active cysts showed themselves. He was the first and worst with the outbreak once it did happen, so that's my best guess

sorry for the losses ski unfortunately il be joing you in losses no doubt soon my clowns and wrasse are blitzed by white spot :( hope you can bounce back alreet from this.

Oh I'll bounce back from this, I have to :)

After seeing still no symptoms since Sunday on the remaining 3 fish (pseudo springeri, male clownfish, purple firefish, bar goby, solorensis wrasse, and mystery wrasse) I'm willing to call them symptom-free today and begin the 6-week quarantine period. I may even go for 8 weeks this time. Cause you can bet your tail I'm going to be careful this time... I've also setup a savings account for them so that eventually when I can work with my LFS to get more wrasses at least I can purchase them simultaneously, QT them properly, and add them simultaneously to avoid bullying. The male clownfish will probably have to be exchanged for a new pair (dont want him beating up a new female) and I'm debating going for Skunk clowns this time around.
