~~ Tank Diary ~~

I've just read through this thread, but have I missed the bit about the tank being cycled?

Seems like the fishy numbers are increasing with some nice stuff - is the tank ready yet?

Looking good guppy man,

As to yhte krbis or rams, I have always liked rams and have two pairs myself, but both would probably so find in your tank. So its really down to a question of which you would prefer.

Some more plants would be cool, looking forward to seeing some pics.

Sam

EDIT - glad the hornwort is growing well, it should do fine in your tank.

im off to maidenhead aquatics in a bit, going to get some vallis or hornwort.
and maybe 2 or so kribs.
could i get a pair of kribs and a pair of bolivian rams?

or would i be pushing it

Not sure about that one matey, I probably woouldnt but thats just me. Have you asked in the cichlid forum? You could ask when you get there, although they are a chain, I have found maidenhead aquatics are better than some. Might be worth speaking to the manager as him/she will probably know more than the 'satuartay' staff.

just came back from maiden head around 2 hours ago, been watching the grand national(didnt win  )
anyway, i asked about kribs and bolivian rams together and he said that " you could have both these fish if you have alot of plant growth and caves. which i dont have, so i eneded up gettin 3 bolivian rams for £12 and 3 peppered corys for £6, and i also picked up 3 vallis for £4 heres some pics, the rams haven't colored up yet, but they looking good :good: and are accepting flake :D

vallis, found lots of snail eggs  i left the metal band on the vallis until the roots have grown a bit bigger, because i lost some of the roots taking them out of the carbon stuff.

Looking really nice there guppyman.

I love the slated caves , that will look well nice when you have the plants all sorted out.

I am actually pretty jealous.... :p

how big is your pleccy, it looks huge . especially compared to the corys..

nice rams too.

Hope to see some more updated pics soon.

lol the little peppered corys are very small around 2cm, the pleco is 6 or 7 inches ive had him for nearlly 2 years :p

ill add more pics when my rams color up and choose their lovers lol, i will have to get another ram for the 1 left over and hope they will pair :/
first i got to sex them, i havent a clue whos male and who female, ill have to do more research :D

thnx for looking :good:

monster pleccy :look: -_-
I've been looking at this diary for quite a while and i have to say lookin goood so far!

thnx geo7x
still quite a bit to do yet, plant wise
i was wondering if i should get some type of floating plant.
what do you think?

Oh man, I missed this from the begining. be careful on what you buy. I just started cichlids, and within ive minutes of a new arrival, my new Melanochromis johannii's split the tank and wont let any fish leave their little caves without getting a good exersize  . Anyways, when you were lookign for fish I wanted to post this, but got to you too late. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=109311 I know that fish is kinda ugly, but the juves are pretty cutre, and this fish grows on you. read his thread, the fish is nice to the others, and I love his decor. I liitle boring but the whole flower thing looks awesome. I might do it to make my mom like my aquariums. And your so luck, I cant find any slate like that, I've been digging for lava rock all over, because I need more hiding places for all my babies, like I said, my johannii's wont be nice.

sweet tank, i like the slate.

do you kno what sex your rams are?

3 might of been a bad idea as they can get aggressive (like all cichlids) if they breed.

plus 2 males will fight when they start to establish a territory.

and on the rams and kribs subject, they tend to fight 2 so its best not to mix them.

Dude i have just read your whole diary just like to say you have done a wicked job on that tank the slate looks awesome not sure about kribinses i had a pair and they were pure evil towards everything else your rams look cool not sure if this would work but could you add a pair of keyhole cichlids they are really peaceful just not sure if that would be the case with you rams anyway nice job mate :good:

Looking good boyo, as people have said the slate looks good, think I would do something very similar if I ever got a cichlid tank. BTW how hard is your water? Over in the planted forum it tends to be the rule that vallis prefer harder water. That said people have grown them in softer water. One tip you will probably find them loose most if not all of their leaves, this is normal they will soon grow more it may just take a good few weeks, oh and it might be worth getting some root tabs for them (seachem do a good one that only needs replacing every 3months or so.) What other plants you hoping for? I take it you're not going to be adding CO2 at all or have lots of light? If you want floating plants just let the hornwort float around, it'll probably do better that way anyway.

Re the kribs, I've never kept them myself but I would have thought two pairs would be trouble, especaily when they breed, if you have one male and two females I would probably leave it at that and see what happens, rather than adding more, you dont want the poor little blighters constantly harrassing each other.

Keep up the good work.

Sam
