I have already posted this in the New World Cichlid Section, but thought I might get a better response in here as no one seems to know what's wrong with my Ram.

I brought 2 Blue German Rams, the female of the two got ill, it was internal bacteria, I treated her and she has now fully recovered. However it seems she has stopped growing and is currently only about 1" long, compared to the male who is now fully grown, he is beautiful.

I'm slightly worried about her, has her illness caused her to stop growing?

I am not sure how big rams are meant to get but I do know that with cichlids the female will always be smaller. Did you put her in a smaller tank for treatment? If so it may have temporarily stunted her growth and she should catch up. Perhaps she is also younger and still has growing to do.

HTH :D

No, she wasnt quarantined, didnt have anywhere to put her.

She is the same age as the male so I thought she would be reaching 2" by now.

sometimes it happens.
I have a pair of clown loaches that were in a 5G tank for the first year of their life.
They haven't grown an inch in the 1.5 years I've had them
They've spent the past 6 months in a plenty big enough tank but just haven't grown.

sometimes I wonder if you miss that important first window of growth if they just never start again.

Clown loaches grow painfully slowly and take years to reach adulthood, large adult clown loaches can be as much as 20 years old by the time they reach 10 inches. Give them time and i'm sure your loaches will grow some more, they may never reach their full potential but they will get bigger in time.

I have 3 clown loaches in my 75gal, it is the only tank they have been in (besides the 10gal for 2 weeks quarantine).....2 of them are about 4-5 inches and the smaller is 3 inches. Ironically, the smallest one os the most bossy. It is always picking fights with the africans :p

Has anyone else got any ideas on why my Ram has stopped growing?

I can't claim to know anything about Rams but maybe the infection she had put enough stress on her body to stop her growth? I am sure, given plenty of time and a stress free life she'll catch up in her own time. And if not, does it really matter? So long as she is healthy and happy. :)
Hugs,
P.

15 UK Gallon, I don't think it has anything to do with tank size as the other Ram that I got at the same time is now fully grown.
