Starting From Scratch....need Your Help!

Ok cool so i can flexi pipe all the way to the top just have to let it splash into the main tank rather than put it under the water (if that makes sense). Is there anyway i can do this without having the noise of the water going back into the tank (it will make me need a pee haha)

Ok so really i need to do a bit more research on the powerheads and make sure they have enough turnover. If i have 2 powerheads do i just add their turnover together to get a total thus knowing how many i need?

I take it the skimmer can be connected to the same pump as the return pump with a T junction (i think this is how Gary had is set up IIRC). And do i use the flexi pipe to connect the pump to the skimmer? If so, how do you connect it to each end? Just sort of stretch it over? or do i need some sort of special connection? lol

PIC 1/ YES IT SHUD
PIC 2/ TURN THE WHITE 90o BEND DOWN SO THE HOLE IS AT THE TOP
PIC 3/ TAKE THE WHITE 90o BIT OF THEN SCREW IT ON IT DOESNT GO TIGHT BUT DO IT AS FAR AS POSS WITH THE PIPE FACEING LEFT THEN ADD THE 90 BIT BACK

PUMP
TRYED PUTTING IT IN WATER ??? WILL MAKE NOISES IF OUTA WATER!!! YES THERE ARE BITS MISSING BUT NOT NEEDED TO OPPARTION

SKIMMER

AGAIN LIKE SAID WHEN I DROPED IT OFF HENCE THERE IS TWO OUT PUTS ON THE PUMP 1 IS FOR THE SKIMMER!

JUST REMBERD THERE IS A HOLE IN THE SUMP AT THE BOTTOM OV ONE END RIGHT?? THAT MAY NEED BLOCKING NOW AS I USED A EHIM PUMP WITH THAT BUCK HEAD TO SUCK THE WATER OUT! WITH THAT PUMP IT SITS IN SIDE THAT BIT!

The more i look at this the more questions appear! haha

How do i get from the size of piping coming from the main display to the size of the inlet on the sump:

Well it can go in a little. Just be aware that what ever water is bewteen the bottom of the pipe and the surface will siphon back without anti-siphons or holes in it. So make sure the sump has a bit of extra room.

Yep, multiply the tank volume by about 20-25 then buy poweheads totaling that

It could, But the water that has been skimmed is going to be released back into the sump. This means that its going to re-skim some water being less efficient. I have my skimmer pump in one chamber then the outlet in the next so the water works its course along the sump without any getting re-skimmed.
Plus im sure the V2 400's reccomended flow rate is over 2,000l/h So you would need one hell of a return pump to feed that and pump the water back

Winner i was hoping you would come online!!

Cheers for the updates mate, So i need to put a bit more effort into screwing the white pipe in!! lol

Didnt think of trying the pump in water haha bright spark! Ah well thats what you guys are here for, ill give it a go. It just looked like something screwed on the front so i thought thats why it was making that noise lol ill shut up now

What did you use to connect the pump to the skimmer then? And also, the skimmer outlet goes back to the sump right, what do i use for that?

Ignore my previous question then, ill just block that hole off. Cheers again

Yes the skimmer outlet goes back in to the sump! eheim pipeing! flexi pipeing! tubeing! what ever you wana call it! but i used the green eheim tubeing!!!

That 2nd pic you posted ov the sump and bluck head... you need to block that! unless you buy a eheim return pump!(not cheap but very quite and powerfull) for now just get pipeing to go on it and make it go high! it will be ok!

Or Had a good thort ! dont use the skimmer for now and plumb one of them outlets in to that buclk head! will save some time for now but in furture may need to change! ill try do some pics

Cheers for the reply mate, bit confused as to what you mean plumb one of the outlets to the bulk head?? If you could knock a pic together that would be cool. Cheers mate

Right, ive priced up all the bits i need to plumb it in and its not that expensive:

2 x L Bend www.reefstock.co.uk £1.16
Plumbing Straight www.reefstock.co.uk £4.06
Bulkhead www.reefstock.co.uk £13.40
Ehiem Flexipipe www.atlantisaquatics.co.uk £6.93
20mm Cap www.reefstock.co.uk £0.48

What glue / solvent should i get? There are too many options! haha As im replacing the bulk head, i need something that will seal it so its water tight to the glass aswel as something to glue the pipes together!

One question about the pipes. If i am going to get 32mm pipes, do i get a 32mm bulk head and 90 degree angle? will they have a smaller end to the pipes so that the slot together? i presume they will but just thought id ask!

If you think ive missed anything else let me know chaps. What would you say is the next thing on the shopping list once ive got the sump plumbed in? I havent even got a heater! Any ideas what i should be looking for?
