Sf05's Slow And Steady

Hi everyone! :)

Used the test kit today to see how my tapwater is... I did this test without salt in the water just so i know what i get straight out of the tap.

PH - 7.4
Nitrate - Under 5ppm
Iron - 0mg/l
Calcium - 80mg/l
Phosphate - 5.0g mg/l (Darker than the highest mark on the kit )

I think the phosphate has let me down, could someone sum up these readings please just so i have an idea. I cant use my own water anyway as my pipes are copper, would an RO unit allow me to use my own water even though i have copper pipes?

Here is a summary:
-your pH is too low, water would have to be buffered
-nitrates are probably from fertilizer runoff or contamination....no good
-Calcium level is way below what you need for a marine tank, 380ppm lowest
-phosphates, any level, promote algae growth
-copper is deadly

Yes..an RO?DI unit would clean all that stuff out. SH

Thanks for your replys guys :)

SH - My Live arog sand claims that it helps buffer up PH to 8.2 and has 380,000 calcium ppm :S and then my reed cystals will also help buffer PH and add more calcium so hopefully i should be okay there. The RO unit will cover the phophate, nitrates and copper i'm hoping so i should be alright. I'm picking up a new 18G too replace this one as i dont want to lose everything because i was too tight to spend £20 :)
Waiting for refractometer too turn up and then we can et the show on the road.

Latest Update:

:/

Well, the refractometer hasn't came yet but i'm in no worries with that yet anyway. I was speaking to my mum about the nano today. She has been taking even more interest in it lately and has even put a marine fish related picture as her desktop background :) I told her my plans about hopefully having water in the tank by the weekend and then she goes and drops the bombshell!
'You'll have to wait until we get the laminate flooring down in the house before you put water in the tank, otherwise it'll be too stressfull for this fish being moved about, Oh and i want to paint the walls!'

Now i agree that the house needs some new flooring and that it wouldn't be fair too move the fish around not long after the tank was setup....BUT come on! She's been helping me order my stuff online and then just as i have pretty much everything together she says this! LOL

I'm going to help her out with the flooring, so hopefully that should be down in about 2months but now im P****d off. This nano has been playing on my mind for the last few days and now i've got to put up with all the equipment underneath my bed for a couple of months!

The good news is we finally got around to ringing samsung today. they said they're going to copy us a CD and post it out, so hopefully if they're any faster than some companies you deal with it should be here in a few days. So i can post you some pictures of how cool the lights look

I wouldn't fancy moving a tank with 10kg of LR in it either  So i guess it's the waiting game for now......:(

it's a place in Dudley called marine-land, a smallish shop but has some good prices and really nice Marine fish :)
It's the only place i can find locally that sells LR. The rock looks good and at that price i cant go wrong :)
I would never order online so i will be getting it from there!
How much do you guys pay for your LR?

Dan

you live in dudley? You should be going to MG Marines, meant to be a good shop. Run buy a nice guy called Bill.

Ben

In total all my rock worked out to £4.50/kg :D

This has been bought from various sources including tank strips, etc. but the average is around that figure.

£7.50/kg from a shop is very good though!

Cheapest I paid for Fijian LR was

15.00 (UK) for 10kg

I dont think the guy knew it's worth

:p :p :p

Well i'm ten minutes from there. I'm lucky enough to have 6 fish shops within a 20mintue drive from my house so i have lots of choice. Hmmmmmm i'll have to find that place, sounds good. Thanks for the info :)

That sucks. But at least you have 2 months for more researching and stuff!

It sure does :( Yep i see your point with the extra research, just so dissapointing too have everything together but not being able to get it started.

I pay $10-$15 per kilo. Or roughly $5-$7.5 per pound.

Sounds like a good deal!

Hi everyone! :)

Well my disc for the camera came the day after i asked for one to be sent out! Can't praise samsung customer service enough, the gave it me for free as well so i can't ask for much better than that. Well i spose i'll post a couple of pics (Nothing too interesting but better than nothing)

Heres the equipment under my bed. Pretty much everything on my list is in those boxes and i can't start it up yet! :(

Heres the lights. If they look unstable it's because i only took them out the box to take a pic so they're not attached on securely. Actnics on only in this pic

Did take one with the daylights on as well but it shows little difference on camera although there is a big change in real-life so i left it out.
