Fish Fanatic
Name is on the business license and sales tax ID account. I looked thru Central Pets offerings last night for an hour or so and it appears I should be able to blow the start up budget there getting the basics in the door to get established assuming the prices aren't insane. https://www.centralpet.com/Catalog/...nd-Testing?page=2&pageSize=48&sort=scoregroup I haven't gotten the log in info yet to see prices or start filling the shopping cart but there will be a few questions answered today I assume. Some things have changed and it appears we can't buy large jugs of Start Right Crystal anymore. Everything appears to be liquid now which is inconvenient for large scale use on small aquariums. Apparently Start Right's gone to the dark side and now has the evil aloe vera added that Stress Coat used to trick me into killing a gorgeous pigeon blood discus. They used to push Stress Coat like it was miracle in a bottle but when adding it to a tank with fish, you can watch a shimmering cloud of goo slowly sinking down from the top of the tank and expanding and I watched my discus swim thru the cloud and immediately keel over face down in the sand at the bottom I assume suffocating from goo covered gills. I'll never use an aloe vera product again in tanks, save it for the sunburns. It looks like the choices are all liquid gallon size bottles.
Kordon Novaqua Plus tsp/10 gallon
API Tap Water Conditioner 1/4 tsp/20 gallons
Aqueon Water Conditioner tsp/10 gallons
Aquasafe tsp/10 gallons but not gallon size bottle showing so I'll have to do some math.
Genesis by Aquarium Products would be another favorite. I don't see it offered though. I like the little drop per gallon stuff and want some small bottles like that for the betta starters. They have a Zoo Med Betta H20 conditioner that looks like it might be a good choice and apparently API's also comes in a 1.25 ounce that may work for beginners. I see they carry Proper PH 7.0 which is another favorite since over half the people I expect to see will most likely have wells which in this area is a wide mix of possible ranges from the low acid levels to the higher ranges from bored wells and everything in between.
Dr Tims for a one time first start sounds interesting as well although I'll have to see the price point and later on figure out what changes he's made that the bacteria aren't just suffocating if it isn't kept refrigerated the whole way. It's nice to see some ammonia offered as well for fishless cycling. Once we're going I could see keeping some extra sponges going in a spiked tub with no fish for start up for customers instantly. I used to do that on a large tank with a bunch of bio wheels. Buy a new filter and tank, when it's set up bring the new bio wheel in and swap it for the same size precultured off the store tank.
They have some sponge filters. I see some Lee's products. Gravel vacs are a must and that means at least one tank will have to have gravel for in store demonstrations. That used to be a big thing teaching a couple people every day and cleaning some tanks at the same time.
I'll look around some more once someone gets to work and gives me the password and stuff to start shopping. There looks like multiple pages of artificial plants and such to wade thru. It looks like the Whisper one's are history, no more spin racks.
They have a lot of other animal sections as well so it looks like a one stop go broke shopping dream. In the old days the wholesalers would send over a giant thick catalog once or twice a year and we'd spend huge amounts of time flipping thru pages before calling the orders in directly to sales reps. The shopping cart/online option should improve this part of the hobby where others appear to have suffered. A lot of the Lee's Kritter Keeper type offerings double dip from bettas and small fish to other pet types.
