Setting Up The 29g. Totally Psyched I Have Saltwater In My Living Room

Aww my cleaner shrimp just died :( It was fine one day and then dead the next. To bad.

My pistol shrimp is still working away on the burrow though.

It's dead. It molted a few days earlier which allowed me to see what a molt looked like in person. It's really dead. :(

Well the guy that received the order read my post about the shrimp dieing and started the claim process. Bad thing was I didn't even think about taking a picture :(

I had to go out to the gargage can, pull yesterday's garbage bag out and dig through it    I don't think I'll be eating supper tonight.

Anyway I found some parts of it. Head, middle area and part of the end. Also found some of it's legs. Took pictures and I'm hoping that's enough proof that it's dead.

That was a gross disgusting procedure....but $20 is $20 (what I paid for it).

This is super annoying  The snail rattles against the glass.

Just a few pictures. Some of the corals have grown a noticable amount...to me anyway. Notably the Armor of God (larger disk, taller), cat eye larger disk.

FTS the left rock fell over and I have to move it. The watermelons are on the sand again. Still open and everything, though... The tank has more of a yellow look since putting the 10k's on. I don't like it but the 10k's are needed for my zoa's and paly. I prefer more of a blue cast.

Green star polyps (keep wanted to say green spotted polyps after the green spotted puffer... )

Cool sponge that has been on the rocks. I've been waiting for it to die. No detectable ammonia in the tank yet. Looks like it might be dieing in the middle of it, though.

And these white wormy things growing all over the place. Notably on the sps skeleton in the back right of the tank as well as some on the glass. I haven't really researched them yet. What are they?

Back to lighting. I'm going around and around to what I really want. I have been thinking perhaps a 175w SE halide of some sort, but have also been drawn to a 4 bulb T5 set up. I also prefer a light that I can leave in place when I do work on the tank. The 150w DE metal halide clip onlights I could just slide over and work where ever in the tank and still have the tank illuminated. I'd like to keep a crocea clam in there eventually. I will need the lighting for it...now what to choose....

I think I'm going to keep my eye out for a second hand 30" 150w halide sunpod. I hear they are discontinued, but are excellent lights.

I'm debating on getting another fish or not.... 29 usg and I have 5 fish already. It wouldn't be for awhile of course but here's my current stocking:

1 & 2 yasha goby pair
3 & 4 clowns
5 clown goby

The three gobies would have a small bio-load or so their size would lead me to think...

Fish I'm pondering are a yellow assessor or a yellow wrasse....Halichoeres chrysus or I may just break down and get a flame angel or a flameback angel (Centropyge acanthops)

The assessor will stay in the rock work for a decent portion of the time and I'd like something more out in the open and an attractive fish that swims in the open more. That's why I'm second guessing my assessor. All but my clowns are hidden most of the time.

I would say the gobies were a very small bioload in comparison to the pair of clowns. If your water is good, I would try it.

Have you thought aabout a HOB fuge, give you that little bit extra gallonage and a tad more stability too. That way I would say it would be fine.

I'm actually pondering moding an aquaclear 70 hob filter into a hob refugium...now that you mention it. I haven't put that thought on here yet :D There's a link on RC where someone photograped processes and it's brilliant!! Throw a lil cheato back there and a small light.

I have seen that, it seems to work very well, from what I remember reading.

I would think you would have room for a small angel. Make sure you keep the water good, may need a little extra water changing at each change to keep water good. Suppose it depends on how much maintenance you are prepared to do. I would say it would be possible though.

Lovely zoas and the paly is a blinder!!!
Lovely piece of rock as a back bone for your reef , jealous,lol..

Also highly reccomend growing macro algaes for nutrient absorbtion..being sumpless i simply grow algae at the surface of my second chamber, although 24 hr light on it would be better. These fuges ran on miracle mud are excellent !!

I think:
#1 I'll plan on saving up for a light so when one becomes available I can buy it quick.
#2 do the aquaclear mod
#3 see how my tanks doing...last water change last week I did 7-8g. No biggie, really. I simplified it...less is more!! What ?? you may ask...lol. I used a 5g bucket and filled it mostly fully twice when syphoning and then added clean water back in the same way. Easier to handle. Water gets heavy and when I try to do to much I end up spilling too much

#4 after I've observed my tank for a month or two and see that everthing's going good and I don't have any problems/issues I just may add the last and final fish. I'm leaning more toward the ancanthops (flameback angel) since they do only get 3" and are supposed to be more reef safe. This is what BigC has...maybe??
