Royal Mail Arghhhhhhh Useless!

So is it 36 Cardinals and 2 Scissortails, or 34/2? No cheating while counting!

Are the above all doing well after ~30 hours?

they seem to be doing fine, only issue would be I;m missing a couple more which I suspect is the angels. I didn;t realise they were going to be this small when I bough them unseen. As it happensthe angels are going to make the tanks focal point the discus :good:

if i was wanting 40 of one fish i would of spoken to my lfs and asked if when they place an order can they order me 40 to save taking there stock straight away and im sure that they would come to some deal as they are passing them straight on and not having to take up tank space/heating/feeding etc.

You really are failing to see the point. Its not about saving them from acclimatising twice. Regardless if the fish have to do this twice they are shipped from all over the world. Yes some are shipped within the UK to elsewhere in the UK, same as with other countries will have suppliers within their own borders, but some are shipped straight from places such as South America to the UK for sale. Alot of fish you see in your LFS's won't be just from within the UK, some will have been shipped in from overseas, and spent time in transit to LFS. You seem quite naive to how the hobby works...

Its nothing to do with lazyness, its saving yourself some money.

You mention if you wanted 40 cardinals you would ask your LFS to order them in, thus not taking all their stock at once. They wouldnt care less about you taking their stock all at once. They care about how much shrapnel is in their pockets. They'll still charge you the price they have, which i'll guarantee you will be nearer £80. So when a trusted online retailer offers them cheaper your going to take it. The fish is no different to that of buying it from a shop, just with you not being able to see the exact fish your buying untill it arrives at your door. Some suppliers will be better than others with their DOA policy depending how their transport system works and which company they use. Some use their own service (i have seen).

just caught up on this topic and 4 losses isnt that bad simon :good:

after seeing the cardinals for myself when i visited oddball express in december i would have been suprised if 50% had made it..... i guess this is why they were such a great deal. they will soon grow though mate mine doubled in size within about 6 weeks so as long as they can stay clear of hungry mouths in the tank they will soon grow. thinking about it their size may have saved them due to the tiny bioload they will give....

Hope the remaining fish grow well and stay healthy Simon, £25 for 40 fish is very good :good:

Royal Mail are carp. At my current house, the postie never bothers knocking on the door, despite there being 2/3 cars in the drive, so a strong likelihood someone is at home  He just leaves packages on our doorstep, that includes 'signed for' deliveries  He's such a wazak.

How can you leave "To be signed for" deliveries on the doorstep that is not proper protocol and you should make a complaint. Otherwise there is no record of it even being processed and received.

my posty does this too. he/she puts a note through the door saying parcel left in recycling box  this could work to your advantage if your that way inclined by taking the note to the post office and saying that the parcel wasnt there you get a refund or another product :hey: i once did have an item go missing that should have been signed for that was just left by a courier. they signed it with my name but stated it was 11am. i was at work from 0530-1430 so there is no way i could have signed it  i ended getting a replacement and the shop claimed off the couriers. not sure what happened to the delivery guy  in a way its fraud isnt it?

If my postie did this without knockin or leaving a no-one at home red card then I'm afraid I'd be kicking his ass.
as that's not proper practice and he/she should be sacked for not carrying out there proper duties.
As yet I cant complain about RM, I suspect it's down to regional descrepencies.

as bad as it seems it does work to our advantage sometimes as it saves us a trip to the post office to collect the parcel. some post offices arent open all the time if not in a big village or city and it can be a pain in the #16##### to collect things sometimes  but i do totally agree that its a big risk on the delivery persons head if it goes wrong/missing and if this happens then action should be taken. to try and get anyone the sack in this day and time is a bit harsh so maybe a word with them next time you see them would be more suitable....

with orders of livestock its different as there is a chance of the fish not making it but if you know they are coming you should also make the time to be in to accept the order. although in simons case it was totally due to a lazy/incompetant delivery guy.

Royal Mail apparently losses £40 million per year on compensation claims, brought about by informal arrangements between posties and their customers. It appears that the new rulings on protocol are not being told to all posties and nothing is being said directly to customers, but as of late summer 2010 the following came into effect...

  • "Safe places" have to be formally on record at your depot, arranged by letter eg. "If nobody is in, leave parcels behind the rose bushes."
  • "Designated neighbours" have to be on record at your local depot, arranged by letter eg. "If nobody is in, leave parcels with Mr Jones at no. 45 Scaley Rd."
  • Without a formal letter, every item should be taken back to the depot with a card left stating so, should nobody answer the door within one minute.
  • If your postie is faking signatures on Recorded items, this is a disciplinary offence.
  • If your postie is "doorstepping" items, this is a disciplinary offence. If they left a card telling you they left an item outside the door, they have "hanged" themselves by providing extra evidence of breaking protocol!
A few other things worth mentioning here regarding Royal Mail protocol...

  • Once a card has been posted through the letterbox, you should not approach the postie to ask for the item, regardless of the reason.
  • Posties are not supposed to hand over any mail to anybody outside the building where the mail is addressed to. It should always be posted through the letterbox, unless its too big, then the door is knocked.
  • Mail should always be delivered to the address on the item, completely ignoring the name of the person or business. Mr Jones might live at 45 Scaley Rd, but for all the postie knows, another Mr Jones may be visiting 54 Scaley Rd and has had post sent to this address.

A couple of years ago, I received an item sent by recorded post but it was just pushed through the door. I contacted Royal Mail and complained. They emailed me a form to fill in with loads of details, which I did. I've no idea if it did any good though.

If I'd been dishonest, I could have claimed the item never arrived, and asked for a refund.

I'm surprised you folks don't have a reliable delivery option that doesn't break the bank. USPS here is cheaper than a parcel outfit, UPS or FedEx are a bit more expensive, but a lot more reliable.

Never had a problem with Royal Mail, if im expecting a parcel but wont be in, i leave a note on the door to say leave it with next door neighbour, although not standard practise as i havent officially told them to leave it there by letter to be recorded.

Had problems with other delivery companies, one which decided instead of ringing the doorbell or knocking on the door, he would tap the letter box open and shut one time and then leave a note. (missed it the first day, but stayed by the door the following day and this is what he did).

with the note tho thats telling people my house is empty wich is sort like a theifs invitation

Our postal service is rubbish. I moved here 10 years ago, and for 10 years before that the same delivery depot dealt with our old address. We appear to be getting mail every other day-(mountains of it!) at the moment. One day last week all our mail went to 3 different addresses and the 93 old lady 3 doors down had most of ours, plus our next door neighbour's. He leaves things behind the wheelie bin, with no note, and if not noticed it can be there for days (no comments about me being a dirty beggar for not cleaning behind my wheelie bin daily please!). They fold certificates with 'do not bend' in large red capital letters. We have had stuff returned to sender because the postie wrote the wrong month on the envelope and it got sent back 3 days later, as we hadn't been to pick it up. (The depot is open 7am-12pm) Once we complained about the lack of delivery and were assured that it wasn't the case, only to be told at 4pm on the same day by another postie who was delivering our mail, that we were right to suspect and that our guy was at the depot with his feet up! As regards not asking the postie for a parcel after a note has been left. A friend of mine heard the postman putting a card through without ringing and caught him at the end of her path to ask for the parcel. He apologised and said that unless there were 3 parcels for the same street, they weren't sending a van out, as it cost too much, so were just putting cards through-he didn't even have the package! Judge for yourself, but on a weekly basis over the last 20 years, something has been misdelivered, lost, or left outside (except when we first moved here, when our lovely postie knew all the oldies and enquired about them if he hadn't seen them-he was replaced, against his will, as the superviser neede a 'flatter' route-the sup did it for about 10 days and now we have a different one almost every day)! Not what I call a good service-and they want you to send passports, driving licences, marriage certificates, etc as proof of ID when applying for official documents  !
....and no, because of this, not surprisingly, I wouldn't get fish posted to me! It very much depends on your area and the expectations of the local sorting office manager-ours doesn't expect much it seems!
