Royal Mail

they may come back with a packet, they often do 2 rounds now, one with packets, the others with letters.

I personally wouldn't deal with anyone selling fish that wont post with a specialist like APC or an actual defra licensed courier. No offence to anyone that works at the royal mail its just they are not in the business of posting fish its as simple as that! I have met NObody of the goat and I would trust him with my fish for sure but you cant really phone and specify which postman you want!

i'm kinda double posting here!

But feel as this is a Royal Mail thread, it should be in here aswell

my local office has nothing for me "although done there best to try and help track parcel!
Says it was tracked leaving Ste's local office, But never arrived at the local Royal Mail hub,, which then is meant to go to my local office
i phoned the local hub they didn't give a monkeys and were rude and wouldn't even check there tracking system, just said sorry no, everything has gone out! be with you tomorrow i guess!
Hellooooo!!!!!! i paid for next day!!

I think not!!

Although spoke to my local postman, "nice chap" if the parcel is there in the morning he's going to bring it to me first on his round,
spoke to Ste,, He has confidence in his fish and packaging they could possible last 2 days.. and gotta give him a shout back tomorrow when i know whats what,

Overall not a great first attempt at ordering online,, I don't blame ste in anyway, Just crappy mail,
Took half a day of work and now gotta wait in the morning till postie gets here again,, For what could be 2 dead cockatoo's

Anyway, Sorry rant over! On another note, Got some nice new amazon swords delivered this morning for my tanks!
:D

I found out today that apparently 1st class mail doesn't have to follow the express delivery guidelines during the christmas period. You may as well post 2nd class as 1st class isn't required to achieve the 93% next day that it's suppose to. Not sure how true this is but I wouldn't be surprised.

Perhaps it's time royal mail didn't have a monopoly of bulk letters, it can't really help the situation that some companies are undercutting royalmail and then forcing them due to their legal obligations to deliver the letters much cheaper than they would really want to.

This would actually bring a bit of competition into the market and perhaps quality of service would once again be something people would actually aim for.

InsaneHOH, I`m so sorry to hear that your Apistos didn`t arrive, it makes me so bloody mad when I hear that RM yet again pass a customers issues off as unimportant and have the attitude of really not giving a toss :shout: :shout:

I`ll be keeping my fingers crossed that the Apistos do arrive alive and well tomorrow, poor little things will likely be very stressed so I`d suggest that once you can open the packaging and establish that they`re alive and ok, leave them for a little while to 'sit' before you begin to acclimatise them very slowly and introduce them to your tank.
Let us know how things go?

Goat, I fully understand what you`re saying and I know very well that there is a lot of upset associated with the changes RM has introduced more recently, I personally think it`s disgusting that the expectations of the posties are what they are and although it`s very, very frustrating to have strikes happening all over the place willy nilly I also accept that there`s a genuine need to make the management sit up and listen to the men (and women) on the ground.

At the end of the day, any company or organisation needs their customers to ensure decent-good profits and by giving a severely bad service to their customers RM will only continue to suffer.

vickiandkev, I agree with your points however, there are a lot of Sellers and Breeders out there who will always try to cut corners and make the mistake of thinking RM deliver a decent service, unfortunately it`s only when they begin to consistently suffer the poor and inadequate service that they`ll begin to look elsewhere such as a courier like APC. When RM cockup it`s going to come back on the Seller and they`ll then begin to lose custom. It`s also a case of many customers (inc myself) have accepted RM delivering because that`s the only option available sometimes. Not good I know but what else can you do when that`s the only way of getting something that you`re really after? :/

I'm fed up with everyone having a go at us posties, as the goat rightly said the changes that are going on at the moment are throwing thr system into chaos and its not down to the posty its management who have never done a delivery in their life.I've been with RM for 10 years as a full time posty and have seen the service decline rapidly through no fault of ours.
As regards sending fish through the post I personally would never order fish to be sent via post, what they would go through in the mail centre I would not like to think about,(those workers don't face the public and in my opinion dont care) in my time I have only ever come across one parcel marked up as live fish and that was leaking, we are not allowed to open anything so we couldnt chaeck wethet they were still alive, and they were only sent via ordinary parcel post, I later found out that they were dead.

Maybe you should go back and have a re-read of this thread as no-one has specifically said they blame the postie for delays or lost items in fact in general members have said they are aware it`s a problem with RM in relation to the 'top dogs' and the way that changes have been implemented.

It`s appreciated that you were trying to raise awareness of posting items via RM by creating this thread but, this is a forum where we all 'voice' our opinions on things, whether that be about fish or everyday issues, if you don`t like what`s said and take whatever comments are made as personal insults then that`s up to you but I can`t see that anyone is slating the posties themselves

I'm fed up with everyone having a go at us posties,.

I was purely unhappy with Royal Mail as a company in whole! Don't promise what you can't deliver!!,
Not the postmen! In fact! i am more than happy with my postman! He went out of his way to come to me first this morning to deliver my missing fish!
Which btw were alive still!!
:yahoo:

An interesting read, especially how people would not trust royal mail to deliver fish. Royal mail clearly state they do not carry livestock. Only fish fry are allowed to be sent and it has to be labelled as so.

Our postman usually arrives between 2 and 4 pm, however special deliveries are usually done by a van driver rather than the usual postman.

never send figh with royal mail

they take forever to deliver, and theres a low chance that you will be compensated because they are terrible at keeping up

ive had 1 delivery take 6 weeks for them to register the tracking number online (not for a fish).

However my postman is great, it must be a logitical/sorting office problem... HIRE MORE NOT FIRE MORE!

Don't forget to get on the case for compensation if the parcel was sent Special Delivery ;)

Thanx! And don't worrie i will do, Ended up taking 2 half days of work, rather than 1,,
Both fish seem to be well settled in now, Tough little buggers
:D

Every item of livestock (weekly throughout the summer months) I've sent via RM next day delivery to the mainland has arrived within that very time-scale, so I cannot fault them. From my personal involvement and postal methods used they are to be commended.

I ordered some dechlorinater off an EBAY powerseller . He posted it the same day but 3 weeks later it still hasn't arrived. My local sorting office weren't too bothered when I went there , said it "wasn;t on the shelf where parcels for my street are kept" and told me to contact Customer Services -0845 number of course. Luckily seller posted another bottle first class and it has just arrived today. I ordered some sulewesi snails last year that were poated 1st class. They arrived 3 days later -dead
