Royal Mail Arghhhhhhh Useless!

I dunno whats wrong with RM over there but anything I've ordered or sent out has always made its deadline, never a loss.
I think its something to do with regional channels some routes seem to be better than others IMHO.
Whilst I sympathise with your loss Sim, but at the same time, in the interest of the livestock involved (cardinal tetra are bad enough getting them home from the LFS never-mid a postal journey) you should not have ordered fish this time of year and equally the seller should not be offering to dispatch fish in this climate heat-packs or not. I send fish and eggs all over the world year in year out and everyone in our fraternity would not, or be very hesitant of sending livestock at this time.
I cant imagine who would be dispatching fish, especially Cardinals.
Lesson learnt I expect

they were ordered and paid for late november just before weather turned. We waited till this week as the cold has gone over here, if they had have been delivered correctly there would not have been an issue, anyhow earlier than usual get up for me to ensure I;m at the office at 8am. fingers crossed

well I got up 45 mins early today and raced to the delivery office which opened 10 mins late!! :(

got the box after complaining. There were only 4 dead which is not too bad. I could only acclimatise them for 35 mins as I had to go to work. Fingers crossed they will be ok

Funny enough the manager of the depot also rang as she'd spoken to the driver. What an idiot he parked across the road looked and saw windows blanked off (nextdoor) and drove off without trying. She quite correctly told him he had no right to do that and he will be disciplined apparently. What an idiot because if he;d have looked properly and checked the number on the address he;d have seen our big massive officefront with lights on and 2 receptionists on. As the manager quite correctly pointed out he knows our solicitors as hes delivered there before and should have known better :S

That was lucky only 4 losses. Glad the rest are ok.

Royal mail havent been to bad for me, well, over christmas a bit sticky, had DHL post a delivery note through the door without knocking tho, i was on the landing by the time i got to the door she had droven off. Ridiculous.

Hope your fish are ok :X

Four deaths is extremely good, considering the circumstances and that it is cardinal tetra's that were being delivered.

not to putr a damper on things mate , but cardinals are notoriously weak when traveling etc , so much as i hope they all come through , dont be surprised if they start dropping like flies over the next few days. fingers crossed for you that doesnt happen tho

4 deaths? lol that is a miracle
I really hope the rest pull through. Knowing Cardinal Tetras, I'm sure you will loose a few more. :shifty:
But you'll be left with the strongest ones :fun:

You were lucky, but 4 deaths is still 4 deaths too many.

reading this makes me sick.live stock should not be sent through the post in my eyes.

with postal delivery items are always going to get lost or damaged,ok if its a material item that can be replaced.

i think it should be banned.

Then why do you keep fish? All of the fish which come from anywhere over a walking distance away from your tank have to travel through post or equivalent.. all fish in shops do, and even if you get fish from a breeder who lives next door, the original fish still had to travel somehow.

There is almost no risk when outdoor temperatures are 15C or above at night, assuming the fish are packed correctly.. get your fish in the summer.

To be honest, 40 Cardinal Tetras I reckon there would of been four even if he bought them from a shop. They're so severely inbred due to over demand by consumers which is far more cruel than any posting of fish.

In response if I may.
Our postal service is much better than you give it credit for in comparison to other countries, admittedly not the best but it's not bad.
I distribute eggs and fish all over the globe (as do many in our fraternity). Many of these species are heading toward being endangered. The only form of distribution open to us are these postal services. We try to conserve where possible certain species by egg distribution between like-minded enthusiasts. Many sent back to country of origin. Postal distribution is not perfect but we are only human and therefore we are always open to failings. Equally this form of distribution has to be done with a certain amount of planning and common sense as far as packaging, heat retention, and seasonal climate. Weighing up all those odds it is at the discretion of the sender to decide if there is a fair chance of the livestock surviving the journey.
(In Sims case I do not believe the fish should have been sent)
This topic is not pertaining to this hobby alone and the distribution of any biological supplies would offer up the same problems.
Finally if you are a tropical fish hobbyist then your fish will have already made a great many postal journeys from source through various global holding stations before reaching your tank. You are part of the cycle of supply and demand so therefore you are part of the problem that makes you sick.
Our RM service is only part of that cog in a bigger picture.
