Royal Mail Arghhhhhhh Useless!

I see what you are saying Col but the reason the service failed here (as admitted by the manager of the deopt whos spoke to the driver) is the delivery guys laziness and incompetence. They were packaged well, had a heat pack would have been fine if received as planned within the 24 hours. Instead I had a driver who didn;t get out the van to check the addresss number and instead made an assumption from a busy dual carriageway that our office was closed. If he had done his job properly or even acted using an ounce of common sense he would have noticed that the address label in bold number said 363 and that it was open with lights and a receptionist, however he was looking at 365 which is shut!! if you saw the location you would be as annoyed as me as a 5 yr old could work it out.

He didn;t even leave a card today say attempted to post which shows the laziness as he didn;t get out of his cab... (his admission)

and a further reason I am annoyed with Royal mial is that its not the first time I;ve had issues with them in last 6 months. They've delivered correctly addressed car parts to me and from me over 3 weeks late on two occasions. Judging from a car forum I go on businesses there suffering similar problems. Its all well and good saying we have a great service comapred to other countries, I;m sure we do, but the fact remains the service we have is a shadow of its former self..... and I;m certain its suffering just like the polcie and courts etc due to cuts in the system which results in an inferior service

I too hear what you are trying to convey and we would agree to differ on this subject. You are blaming human incompetence at the end of the chain. I may have a different angle.
Regards
C

Did you get your p + p back?

Pretty sure that if they dont deliver in the 24 hours, and its there fault (which it was) then you can claim it back? They have admitted fault already so shouldnt be to hard? And getting 5-6 quid back would be better then nothing to cover the 4 dead fish.

to be quite honest I;ve spent that much of my time messing about with all this that if they survive ok as they are then I;ll leave it because to get through on customer services takes 20 mins. I believe its the seller who sorts the claim out anyhow which would be oddball express. I'm still in work so will see how the fish are when I get in

I;m supposed to be sorting a bail application for someone stuck in custody and I;m messing about with Royal mail

not to putr a damper on things mate , but cardinals are notoriously weak when traveling etc , so much as i hope they all come through , dont be surprised if they start dropping like flies over the next few days. fingers crossed for you that doesnt happen tho

Wasn't this suggested today?

Royal mail havent been to bad for me, well, over christmas a bit sticky, had DHL post a delivery note through the door without knocking tho, i was on the landing by the time i got to the door she had droven off. Ridiculous.

Hope your fish are ok :X

edit, 4 deaths still pretty bad id deffo kick up a stink about it

Four deaths is extremely good, considering the circumstances and that it is cardinal tetra's that were being delivered.

Glad you got them in the end :) Some delivery drivers are like that don't like getting out of the van!! They must hate delivering things which begs the big question. Why work for a delivery company!!! Iv had no problems yet with RM but I have had problems with other courier companies!! Sat in many a day waiting for something which was coming and then down to clerical errors it wasn't out for delivery !!! Grrrr that happened with the delivery of my tank.

They just don't care :-l

Hmm, sorry to hear the driver failed to verify the address properly and even more sorry to hear four Cardinals have passed away... :(

10% losses would not have been unheard of, for instance "Markandhisfish" lost a whole batch of new Cardinals in summer, but we will never know if this was directly the result of what the driver did.

Hopefully the other 36 will be doing well when you get home from work.

the vision i have of fish being ordered online and turning up on doorstep is propably very wrong but i hate the thought of it and i also think its a lazy option.cardinal tetra are not exactly a hard to find fish in lfs are they?

i understand the the fish in shops have had to travel to get there and im propably wrong again in thinking that they have had the best trip possible.

to me when i buy fish i make sure they look nice and healthy and the shop apperance goes a long way to me and from the point my new fish are on the shops counter i make sure getting them home and into the tank is as stress free as possible.

lazy? thats a bit ignorant dont you think? what is or isnt easy to find varies greatly depending upon which area you live in and what kind of lfs you have . also cardinals in lfs tend to be very expensive for what they are . my 40 cardinals from a lfs cost me 80 quid , and the price for these was a lot better than that . plus how do you think fish get to the shops you buy from? il give you a clue they dont swim .

From my experience working with wholesalers and for LFSs, posting and receiving fish for personal keeping.. The conditions in which most fish are shipped to individuals or from individuals are on average considerably better than what happens before stock makes it to the shop.

It's not always practical buying from shops. Not only may they not have 40 Cardinal's in but like Mark said, it costs like £2 a piece and pending where you are they are not readily available. Some shops may also not be willing to sell 40 fish.

Simon lost only 4 out of 40. Thats a 90% success rate, which is not bad considering the trouble he had. He could of been looking at 100% if things went well.

Furthermore, Im sure the fish were well prepared for the journey. Im sure Simon would not have bothered if he doubted that. Plus to bring it up again, only 4 losses. Something must of been right in the postage package.

James.

Your right they aren;t difficlt to get hold of

I wasn;t being lazy instead I was paying £25 for 40 cards instead of £72 which is what my LFS would have charged bearing in mind they are £9 for 5!!! Do you see where I;m coming from???

Simon

Just checked on them and they seem ok, coloured up quite nicely. Theres a couple of tiny scissortails in with them

if i was wanting 40 of one fish i would of spoken to my lfs and asked if when they place an order can they order me 40 to save taking there stock straight away and im sure that they would come to some deal as they are passing them straight on and not having to take up tank space/heating/feeding etc.

Your shop would have them shipped in, no different than you having them shipped in. You would then pick them up from the shop, effectively bagging, shipping, and acclimating twice.

Outfits that supply, ship, or import fish do it as a business venture, the product they sell is called just that; product. If they have losses it gets written off as a business expense, just another day at work. Hobbyists tend to be more careful due to the inability to write off any losses, thus from my experiences pack & ship better than commercial outfits.

mine would do that and I get a discount from then anyhow on anything I buy but not at that price...
