I;ve ordered 40 cardinals from Oddball Express and they were posted yesterday through Royal Mail next day special delivery guaranteed to arrive before 1pm.

Well using the tracking no that Ross from Oddball express gave me it says they attempted to deliver at 11.27 and a calling card left. Well there was no calling card left cos they didn;t try at the delivery address which is my office with a reception always open and manned by two receptionists.God knows where they have tried to deliver as it wasn;t here. Checked the delivery address and its right . I can;t collect the fish as the office they go back to is shut from 1pm onwards. I've now been hold for 17 mins to customer services after taking about 15 mins to decipher the numbers on the automated system!!!

Just a rant arghhhhhhhhhhhh the fish are likely to be dead when I get them and then I will have to go through the process of getting my cash back!! I;m so wound up

This is exactly the same situation which resulted in the only DOA fish I have sent, just a few days early and a few years late.

Calm down lol. They will probably be OK as long as its warm and they aren't been moved around a lot

mate thats such a p--s off. especially with how long yove waited for em

One reason i couldnt ever get mail order fish. Your fish should be ok, provided it is warm(ish) for them and they arent somewhere constantly being sloshed around. Think, fish get shipped across continents from their native amazonian homes to our shops for purchase. So don't lose faith.

Yes its an absolute balls up, and i hope your situation resolves itself with a good outcome :)

That is a bummer mate, i think you will have problems getting your money back, unless ross will re-imburse you, as royal mail do not allow live stock to be posted, they will accept fish when fry, but its entirely at your own risk, good luck budd

Sounds like the postman I had this morning. Banged on the door really loud, I answered and he shoved a parcel in my hand, he was busily yapping on the phone in a foreign language and muttered at me to sign. I looked at the parcel and said no. He frowned and me and said "sign" shoving the pad & pen at me. I tried to give him back the parcel and tell him it was the wrong address by about 3 streets, but he was so engrosed in his phone call he just kept saying sign. It took me nearly 10 minutes to get through to him he was at the wrong address!!

I hope that the fish are ok and you get them in the end.

On a side note, I did get the money back as I could prove that the fish were young (although juveniles, not fry).

I dunno whats wrong with RM over there but anything I've ordered or sent out has always made its deadline, never a loss.
I think its something to do with regional channels some routes seem to be better than others IMHO.
Whilst I sympathise with your loss Sim, but at the same time, in the interest of the livestock involved (cardinal tetra are bad enough getting them home from the LFS never-mid a postal journey) you should not have ordered fish this time of year and equally the seller should not be offering to dispatch fish in this climate heat-packs or not. I send fish and eggs all over the world year in year out and everyone in our fraternity would not, or be very hesitant of sending livestock at this time.
I cant imagine who would be dispatching fish, especially Cardinals.
Lesson learnt I expect
Regards
C

Fingers crossed you can pick up this parcel from your local depot and find the Cardinals are ok...

On a sidenote, my mum who lives round the corner from you (now in Bebington, she moved from St. Aidans Terrace in Prenton) was telling me on the phone on Xmas Day that temps were still crazy in Wirral, with black ice everywhere but on the motorways. I was intending to drive up on the Monday (27th) but she insisted it was too dangerous and made me promise to not do it!
Has the weather vastly improved in the last few days?
Was a dedicated livestock courier like APC not an option?

"Special Delivery" guarantees were quietly re-introduced yesterday by Royal Mail, after suspending the time promise on 1st December. We were not told at our depot, I only found out via www.royalmailchat.co.uk last night!

As I have said before and will say again now, sending fish via Royal Mail is a game of Russian Roulette, playing with the lives of the fish and the emotions of the expectant receiver.

I find it really odd that your local depot shuts at 1300... Surely they have re-opened again this afternoon so you can pick up your Cardinals before tomoorw?

that sucks hopefully theyle understand

I;ve calmed down now, the delivery office opens at 8am so I;ll have to go and grab them down there.

Hopefully it'll be ok but if not Ross can sort me out seeing as I;ve waited 5 weeks for delivery and he can claim the money back

Hi mate

no they shut at 1pm reopen at 8am tomorrow

the temps were crazy up here but in last 3 days its warmed rigt up and not a bot of snow or ice left which is a good thing. I;ve just been out in a t shirt and it was fine

I owuldn;t have chosen royal mail but I bought them from a fish supplier who obviously uses them. When I call him tomorrow with the result I;ll advise him against it in future

Good luck with the fish everything crossed they are ok :good:
