I used a superskimmer for about 2 months before I moved up to my big euroreef. Mine was an older used model though and didnt have that valve to control the pump outlet. I didnt have an ounce of trouble with mine though. I had to put my own airline hose on it and my own air valve on it since it didnt come with one though. I used some pretty wide air line hose (with no silencer) and was able to control the level of bubbles in the skimmer with the air valve. I could dwindle mine down to the point where bubbles stopped pouring out of the pump.

FANTASTIC NEWS! I managed to get the micro bubbles down to almost 0!!! I took the pvc elbow off of my mod, so the outlet filet foam is vertical instead of horizontal. Also took the water inlet valve off, don't know why but it seemed to help. Skimmer runs a little wet so I may try to put the water inlet valve back on and fidddle with it (i took it off prior to modifying my bubble trap). So we'll see what I can do

Such a relief... and I bought some more liverock and a few tiny hermit crabs managed to hitchike their way into my tank. Do i need to feed them or will they just pick at algae or something?

Yeah there will ne plenty of food inthere for them for a good while. I got some hermits today too!! (and some snails and an Urchin!!)

I'm going out of town on Dec. 27th until Jan. 7th . So when I get back I'm going to do some tests and see where my water stands. But I won't be adding anything before the 27th cuz I won't be here to take care if it.

Good plan. When I was setting up my 20gal I had to wait until I came home from my holiday in Egypt to add any fish... I spent 2 weeks thinking about fish!! Was lovely to scuba dive in the red sea knowing that I would be having some of the fish soon (I was also setting up a 50gal and a 125 gal at the same time!)

Are you going anywhere nice?

How do you accurately change the sg in your tank? I haven't been able to think of a good way to do this. What I have come up with is basically to measure the tanks sg and then just add straight RO water into it until it lowers or on the other side of things add normal saltwater until the sg adjusts. I would appreciate any input on this cuz im kindof beffuddled at the moment.

Reading through all these threads has given me some cool ideas for my tank. I would like to know if one of them would work... once again my tank is 25 gallons 24x20x12 (LxHxW).
I would like to have:
2 clowns (percula? I'd like a smaller species)
a watchman goby and shrimp combo(is it a pistol shrimp?)
a golden neon goby

Is this possible in my tank? If not can you suggest what might?

Now that my skimmer issue is finished, I can finally relax and wonder about my stocking ideas

I want the above, but i cannot decide on whether to get a golen neon goby or a cleaner shrimp. They are both cleaner symbionts(sp) right? I thought Goby's fought amongst themselvs? I've also heard that the pistol shrimp will be aggressive towards other shrimp.

Any input?

EDIT: Nevermind, lol. I just rememberd a while ago Ski posted a cleanup crew for my tank including:

5 Cerith Snail
5 Nassarius Snail
5 Scarlet hermits (aka redlegs)
2 Trochus Snail
1 Mexican Turbo Snail
1 Dwarf Brittlestar
1 Cleaner shrimp

Would these work with my above stocking idea?
