Random Discussion

With all due respect it was Rocky and Phoenix who misread, misunderstood everyone and decided that general comments made by gary and myself and others were "all about them" when they were not.

That is always an issue when teens who have no life experience other than what they get at home, try and involve themselves in conversations that they do not understand fully

They continually take everything said as aimed personally when it is not.
I do agree that as a whole, this generation has fallen way short of what it should be. Teens who spend their days being productive citizens are the minority, not the majority.

There is a whole world out there and its not always nice or pretty but you have to go explore and experience it first hand, not just from a book or the internet

I was travelling from age 16 on my own, various countries around the world, had a Saturday job from age 15, moved out from home at 17

I despair, honestly despair at the lack of motivation and maturity in youngsters thesedays....missing out on so much of life's experiences, both good and bad

Getting got at when in school is a drop in the ocean compared to what you face as an adult.......life is not full of fluffy clouds.

You only live this life once...go out there and grab it by the wotsits....

Yah... I'm done here in this chat....

You're a good guy, Rocky. There's nothing wrong with checking in with a counsellor, for example. You aren't taking someone else's spot.

I can have faith my car will start every time, but it’s not religion. You’re right in that aspect.

Why did you randomly have to bring it up though?

Good question!
I think the chip on the shoulder kid I used to be resurfaced. We see faith as religious, but I think it's more a decision to stop questioning certain ideas. I don't trust that.

I don't trust my car.

I do trust the mods here and will be more careful!

Thank you.
It's just hard to do I suppose... I really don't want to.
If I do that it would end up being a burden on my family. (They don't really know I silently struggle. I smile for them really)

Maturity will hopefully make those same youngsters realise that the world and its opinions do not revolve around them or their feelings exclusively

There is alot of maturing and growing up to be done....generally

I figure everything said about you teenaged types now could have been said about teenagers in my generation, by my grandfather and his buddies. Soft? We wouldn't have stood up well to factory life in our early teens. We were too lazy to shovel coal on Great Lakes freighters, or work as maids in the big houses up the hill (my grandmother did that). We could go to school, and there were social programs in -place to even let us go to university and fill our heads with crazy ideas not worth money. We had ideas above our world, and the sooner we got our dreams crushed, the better off we'd be.
We hadn't faced the Great Depression, and that would have toughened us up. And World War Two. All the older men in my family were army or navy vets who had spent a lot of time in combat zones. A bunch of long haired freaks wouldn't have lasted in that war. No sirree bob. We were losers in what my grandfather called 'dungarees' (jeans) with our music that was all screaming with no melody!

Yeah, it's part of the circle of life for teenagers to be denounced. You face different stresses, and the results of many things our generation and its leaders really messed up for you. In many ways, I think we had it easier. I left home at 17, but I could find decent affordable housing. As a recently retired teacher, I can say the teenagers I taught were far nicer than we were, as a group. They were often more polite and considerate than louts like me were. There were entitled rich kids in my classes, but their parents were just as entitled. I don't approve of the smaller percentage of you getting into the fish hobby - you need to generate more tropical fish nerds than you do now. But other than that - you're people like us, in a different context for sure, but with the same fundamental human things.

Just get off my lawn, eh?

In my profile posts someone kept me up to date on how many posts I had 😅
That person being @FishandBirdLover.
I realized my post number was at 11,799 and wanted my 11,800th post to be something special.
Naela (@FishandBirdLover), said to give someone a compliment and make their day for my 11,800th post...
I loved that idea.
But there was one issue I thought of. To randomly select one person out of all the wonderful members here and just compliment them felt wrong.
So... Instead I had another idea.

@FishandBirdLover, while new, is one of the very kinds souls on the forum and always seems to be happy.
@PheonixKingZ seems to be the chill teenager of the forum here...
And of course we would never have this random discussion without the one and only @Crispii!
He's a cool kid.
@betta4ever! Is like Naela in the way that she always seems to be happy and cheering people up.
And @JuiceBox52... She keeps her head high even when in the hospital. Her medical conditions don't stop her from following her passion as an artist, which is a huge inspiration to anyone out there...
@AdoraBelle Dearheart, even when she felt offended, stood strong and decided it would be best to stay rather than leave...
There are so many other members on here who take time out of their days and lives to help people in dire need of assistance on their aquariums or to just talk to a friendly community in general.
We all form a community, every single member contributes something to the table here.
You, yes im talking to any member that is reading this, you make up a part of this community and your valued on the forum...

Of course we could never even be here in this safe environment if it wasn't for all the mods and admins keeping us all controlled.
They all respect their duties and never abuse their powers..
We rarely thank them but they do a lot and deserve a lot of thanks.

I hope I was able to make someone's day and let's not forget, Naela is the person who inspired me to do so. So a HUGE thanks goes out to her in this.
This really made my day, Rocky. Thank you. 🙂

Not sure if I'm the only one, but has anyone have been asked by random customers if you worked at your LFS, even though you don't?

This happened to me multiple times, where customers would ask me if I worked there or ask me questions that only an employee can answer, such as pricing. Of course, this doesn't occur everytime I'm at my LFS, but enough where I'm used to it by now.

I once had a guy point to a fish in a tank I was looking at, and tell me to catch it! He didn't ask. He ordered. I told him I didn't work there, and he started swearing about the guy that did and how I should replace him. I think the real clerk was hiding behind the UV system. Someone was laughing in there.

I see cars being mentioned. I hate cars. Always have. Way back in the halcyon days of my youth I once told my Dad I would never get a drivers license and would ride my trusty 10 speed everywhere. Reality bit me on the hindquarters there . I've owned seven cars now in my lifetime and when this one bites the dust I will make good on what I once told my Dad. I hate cars.
