Random Discussion

I originally subscribed to Ancestry but then found a lot of local records I needed were on Find My Past so I now have a subscription there as well.

In case you haven't found them yet -
The 1881 census is free in many places, as are BMD indexes on FreeBMD and the GRO's own indexes (though that doesn't include marriages, and their birth index includes mother's maiden name back to 1837 and age at death from 1837).
FreeReg is another free site though the coverage is limited.
Family Search is free to use though they mainly have transcriptions with links to images on subscription sites.

Depending on where your ancestors came from, there are also regional sites for places such as Lancashire, Cheshire, the Midlands, Cornwall etc. Though the only London records I've found are on Ancestry.

PM me if you need more info :)

@OliveFish05, yes, I do enjoy it!

I do need to get just a hoop, because we do have a little room, but all my money is going towards my new SW tank. ?

I used to play baseball, and I was super good, but we moved, and they have no baseball whatsoever up here. (They do technically, but you have to be in public school)

Ahhh. I hate having to like decide what I want to do with my money. There are too many things to enjoy! Fishkeeping, raising the bunnies (the last rabbit we purchased cost $210 with transport to us, the one before that was $150!), crafts (turns out quality watercolor paints can get pricey, and if you want to keep them nice you can't share them with your siblings) and I collect these pretty little glass paperweights

Ohhhhhhh wow! Aw that is so disappointing. I have never really done any sports  I started doing Dog Agility (which is basically like an obstacle course, consisting of tunnels, jumps, and climbing obstacles which the handler must use commands to tell the dog where to go) with my Australian Shepherd, Griffin, but he is kinda.... he is a bit slow for it (and also overweight, my mom says she thinks he may have some thyroid issues or something because we put him on a strict diet recommended by the vet, but it hasn't done anything) and my sisters and I used to do riding lessons, but it got too expensive.

Same here.

I have so many hobbies I want to spent money on: fishkeeping, airsoft, real steel rifles, watches, Legos, etc.

Ah that’s cool! My sister did some dog agility a few years ago, but my dog was so distracted.

Ooooo. What kinds of things have you built with the Legos? My brother used to collect Legos, he also used to have a bunch of airsoft things. I am not sure what he has now though. I know he got a big expensive airsoft gun for his 13th birthday, but that was almost 4 years ago so who knows if it is still considered a good one or not

I tried at first with our outdoor dogs, who are collies, and they had no interest at all, then when Griffin was grown enough to do the jumps, he loved it. He can jump really well, and he is kinda fast, but he definitely prefers to just sit in my lap (even though he is too big) How many dogs do you guys have? We have like... a lot of animals. Parakeets, Rabbits, dogs, cats, chickens, we used to have ducks

I usually don’t free-build, I just get sets. I like Star Wars, along with Ninjago.

My airsoft setup cost me over $800, it is an expensive hobby! Problem is there’s no good fields here in KY. Everyone has replaced airsoft with paintball.

Just one dog, lol. We also have 2 cats, and then of course my fish. ;)

I am awful at Legos, I don't think I have ever free built anything with them, except an awful square house. I think the majority of the Legos my brother has are Star Wars, Ninjago, and a few Harry Potter. Have you ever had any of those little Ninjago spinners, where you spin them into eachother and it knocks the little character off? My mom mostly bought us the Lego Friends, cause we liked them better and they had some really pretty horses in the sets. My family used to actually watch the Lego Ninjago tv show as a family, when we were younger.

I remember we used to have to be so careful with the Legos when my littlest sister was a baby, because my mom had a family member who's baby choked on a Lego and died?

Nice! My family has 9 dogs:look: 3 cats, 7 parakeets, 10 Silkie chicks, and my sister and I have 6 adult rabbits and 9 baby rabbits. We used to have ducks, I took care of them and they even hatched 3 ducklings. We had to sell them though because they liked to sit in front of our garage and poop everywhere, they were so messy, and we didn't like the taste of their eggs. I miss them:unsure: They all had names too. Monte, Winnie, Ducky, Maggie, Hazel, and a few others.

Yup! Naturally mine are lost, so no pictures.
Haha, I think my brother has all ours in his closet... do I dare go look for them? They were so much fun!

also! Yeahhhh we have a lot of animals. It is a lot lot lot of work. When my siblings and I all move out, we are each taking our own dog with us, and one of our dogs is very old, so by the time all of us are moved out my parents will only have the three outdoor farm guardian dogs?

but to make it all worse, we are bringing home two horses this weekend. We enjoy the animals so we don’t mind the work, but one thing is for sure: when I move out I don‘t ever want to have 9 dogs or chickens ever again

Horses are expensive to upkeep I hear, may much so than fish...

I think the initial investment is quite expensive, but after that it’s dependent on your setup, what you feed, and if you are hiring someone to manage their care. For us, we chose our horses carefully and are purchasing ones that do well with step-in fence posts and white tape/wire that you run between them, their shelter is a pavilion like structure we had built on our property years ago, after the old one got blown over and destroyed by a tornado while we were out of town, that we will put walls on as the weather gets colder, and after talking to many horse owners, including some very close friends of my mom’s, the horses will be out to pasture and have access to good grass the majority of the time, and we will provide hay and grain and oats, but in smaller amounts than if the horse were stabled the majority of the time. I am very excited. It has been my mom’s hope for years that we could have horses, and my parents have spent a lot of time praying about it and that the horses we bring home will be safe and the right horses for our family

That’s awesome! Definitely start a thread with pictures once they get there!

My Lego collection is looking pretty sad right now:

It will eventually go on a shelf, but the weather has to cooperate in order for me to repaint it.

I definitely will if people wanted to see them!

Oooo! That’s really cool! Which one was the most fun to build? I remember for my 6th birthday my whole gift was a Lego Horse School thing. I still have the instructions and all the pieces! Those are gonna look really cool once they are on the shelf! The weather here has actually been really nice, it’s been sunny and warm but not too hot

Eh, probably the space shuttle. I’ve had that one for over 10 years now I think? It’s one of my favorites and I have all the pieces. I don’t really play with the sets much, I just like collecting them. :)

Ooooo. I occasionally play with my little sisters, but I mostly help them build these awful little houses, but it satisfies them so oh well
