Raising bristlenose pleco fries - Log

okay a pet store i saw had some that were 2-3 inches and these should have been COMPLETELY mature and abe to tell right ??? if not about what length will i be able to tell ?? and ho many types do bn come in ?

When I went to the first LFS, they had 3 inch bristlenoses but for some reason, all of them were females! I ended up purchasing 4 young ones from another LFS (albino instead), and as it turned out, only 1 of 4 are males... Does this mean males are far rarer than females? Not sure, but it certainly appears that way from my limited experience so far...

At 3 inches, all males should show some bristles. Look in the tank carefully and see if you see any that have developed bristles... Those are males.

Females have no bristle's, males do.
and IF the female does have them, its on the VERY tip of her mouth.
I cant help you out with types of Bristlenose... as i thought there was only 2.

yhbae, did you take alook at the link i posted? its my Bnose with its eggs

well i would say when they go to get a pleco they get the intresting looking one for their comm. tank (the males) i feed my pleco shrimp pellets once the bn get used to this willt his be okay for the most part ?

i would proberbly suggest algea wafer, as algea is what they eat.

But they will eat it anyways i think...

Yhbae thanks man! :) Cant wait till they hatch.
btw, i dont have an option to post pics in this thread... how did you? do you have to own it to do it?

Yes I feed those as well and all fishes eat them including bristlenoses. But you should provide lots of vegetables for them to eat - zuchini, cucumber, etc...

Guys... have you seen the PM function - It lets you send messages to other users. It'll keep this poor persons LOG thread clean.

If you've got questions post another thread, others may find it usefull too and I'm sure we'll read it and reply quickly!

Yhbae how are they today??

smithrc, whats so upsetting about this thread?
You are very curious, aren't you?

They are all doing very well - none died up to today. Zuchini used to last two days at a time, but now it appears that it will only last one day. Obviously they are eating more now... All very good! ;)

smithrc's point is that this thread is meant to be a log (and possibly some relevant messages). This thread contains alot of other tangent discussions which could be not_so_helpful to those who are looking for specific information on what this thread's title suggests... I understand his point of view... ;)

oh okayi understand then.

So how big are the fry now?
also, its been bout 3 days for my eggs, how much longer?
and could u take a pic!! :p
sorry if u feel i am like a pain is the bum, its just i wanna know all this stuff so i dont get anything wrong.

Day 12
--------

Still zero loses. It is becoming really apparent that some are growing far faster than others... Is this because I introduced some to this tank earlier than others???

Here are some pictures....
