Eh, you're suggesting epson salts instead, and I think they may be the better choice.

But dropsy's tough to treat, and the majority of fish that get it, die. Having said that, at this point the only treatment I would recommend would be the silver, because I trust Kelly's fishkeeping skills implicitly.

The one thing I might suggest is colloidal silver. Although I've not personally used it on dropsy, a recent article in FLARE! (written by our own wuvmybetta... ) suggests that in addition to its multitude of other uses, it may help cure dropsy in some cases.
Silver is AMAZING stuff.
I have 2 fish that haven't bubblenested in months, they now are making HUGE nests... Lucky's tail is growing faster in the week or so that I've been adding it to his tank than it had in the several weeks before that. AND.. i'm pretty sure it helped 3 of my girls kick columnaris.

It's GREAT for fin regrowth too.
Can't say enough good things about it!
Lots of stories have come out too about it working for dropsy.

Yep, my Bob had dropsy and he's fine now - I used Maracyn 1 and 2 together and colloidal silver. Everything I've read says that dropsy is usually fatal, but in this case, maybe just a fluke, it worked for me.

where can you get the colloidal silver in the u.k as ive never heard of it before.
