Planned Fry Journal Just For Fun :)

It won't be long before your fry outgrow my chili rasbora.

I am so jealous! I love chilli rasboras the vibrant red would look stunning against black. Can't get any around here unless it's online.

My ideal tank would have a shoal of chilli rasboras, a shoal of platinum tetras and ember tetras. Against a black substrate and a decent long tank that would be magnificent!

Tetra as a group are my favorite FW fish to keep hands down. I was going between ember tetra and the chili rasbora but the micro nature of the rasbora and the color won me over.

They are stunning fish. I read that chilli rasbora esp are quite shy unless in a substantial group-are they? I need to up my numbers of harlequins, I will get another male and 2 females. That will be 6.

You know I will come back with tetras now lol.
I had issues with tetras in the past. I don't know if it was tetra disease but they used to discolour, go fluffy and just drop like flies. I had no luck with neons and the beautiful platinums either.
I do realise we are going off topic to what my journal is about but technically not because I included pics of fry

I can't believe the growth rate of my fry and I don't know if it's due to being in their own tank but the week old ones are almost a centimetre already. It's crazy!

I have 8 of them and at feeding time they come right over to my fingers. Then again the tank is so heavily planted that they probably feel pretty safe.

Neons have gotten weak over the years in my experience. They used to be a hardy beginner fish but now I only recommend them for mature tanks. But green neons are good and so are ember tetra. Of course the celestial pearl danio is one of my favorite fish too.

Fast growth is a good sign and shows they have the right conditions.

Oh the galaxy rasbora is stunning too, we never get these varieties in the shops! I will be going to pick up 3 more harlequins..
I do agree about the neons, they seem to be so weak. It's like a lot of species really you could say overbreeding has ruined them-guppies being one of them.
I will also piock up more plants either twister vallis or cabomba.
I had cabomba before, it grew and grew and the babies sought refuge in it. It's just a bit too much growth rate for me lol I will see what they have then decide. Take the rock out the baby tank while my little ones at nursery, I will tell her it wa too dirty for the babies or something lol she really likes it.

So...I was meant to be getting another 3 rasboras...I ended up with 6. Driving home in the bounciest car ever, avoiding the potholes and the exhaust vibrating the bag-my heart was in my mouth but they got home safe and sound!
Now I have 9! It's a decent sized group. I am probably overstocked with 9 harlequins and 4 guppies in a 64L but my filter is for a 150L tank so it's very powerful. I also do water changes on a regular basis-everyday the fry tank gets at least 20% water changed due to the amount they get fed and the main tank gets 50% on a sunday. This week it's had 3 water changes lol.

It's so hard doing a water change in the fry tank I think I will stop using the syphon and use a plastic cup instead. I don't want to suck any babies up by accident.
The virgin female in the main tank is getting big. My male will have fathered the babies so I can't wait to see what happens! The female I wanted him to mate with is still playing hard to get

lol

You do what I do...my LFS is not far from my house but I drive like I have the most precious cargo in the world. I KNOW they just traveled hundreds or thousands of miles around the world to get to the LFS but once I get them...

Lol I was going 50mph on the motorway home with the fish seat belted into the babyseat!
They seem, to be picking on the 2 smaller ones of the shoal I assume this is just the pecking order? I was feeling quite sorry for them. 2 of them are only the size of endlers and they seem to be alienated from the group. I seem to have ended up with lots of plump ones, they are bigger than my male guppy lol. They are so much fun to watch though! My filter is so strong they try to swim up the current and end up swimming upright then dart away.

Look at the size of this fry! There are 5 of them this size, they are a week old. Just as a comparison-look on the left in front of the filter and on the right in front of the plants-those 2 are the ones born 2 days ago!

This ones eyes have a red shine to them. Would be interesting to see if he actually grows up to have red eyes or maybe it's my dodgy vision :p he's also more orange than the rest so might turn red. He is one of the week old ones, and is quite big too.

I know I asked about the black background but I couldn't help myself. What I did was cut a cheap black bin bag to size and put it at the back of the tank-because it's very thin and transparent-it's not too overpowering and I think it looks awesome and subtle.
It brings the harlequins colour out.

Feel free to criticise -i'm a big girl I can handle it

Even with all the fish in my tank-why does it look so empty? Is it because they all swim at the top lol. I've had just guppies for so long I am rubbish at the whole community thing!

Lovely fish. Yes, pecking order. Background actually looks very good. You were right.

Thanks. Now my little girl wants it on hers. Might look a bit different on hers. Will give it a go!

Its all looking good Nylah, love the black background and the lfs retail therapy seems to be working well  :)

Thanks Pete, just trying to getting back on track.
How's your tank coming along?

Well firstly I have moved the fry food to a high shelf. My little one likes to freed her fish...a lot

the food was floating amongst the water bubbles and everything. I had to get as much out with the net as I could then do a 10% water change. Just to find an hour later she had done it again

My landlady was over about half an hour ago with 2 bags of mopani wood. She really liked the crystal that was in my little ones
tank so said I could have any piece I wanted and swapped it for the crystal lol.

My beautiful piece of mopani wood. I will put the redwood into the fry tank and put this as a centre piece in my tank.
