Hi everyone, I'm new to the Fourm, Which I think is top notch by the way :good: I have a very large Trigon 350L Corner tank Great bit of kit !! with a very astablished set up. I recently invested in the API liquid test kit witch seems very good I did a test earlyier this evening and the results were Nitrate 0ppm, Nitrate 40ppm ( which in the little booklet that came with the kit said this was the correct level or a little less would be fine ) Ammonia 0ppm, and finnally PH 7.5 all the fish are fine and look happy, just checking with you pros out there if you could confirm these results for me that would be great.

also looking forward to making some new Fishy friends on here.

Cheers.

Hello and welcome to the forum. :hi:

You levels sound fine (how long has the tank been running with fish). You always want ammonia and nitrite to be 0. You should try to keep nitrate under 40ppm (unless it is present in your tap water and you can't get it that low). As a general rule, if you do weekly 15 to 25 percent water changes and don't have nitrate in your tap water, you should have no trouble keeping nitrate under 20ppm.

Have you tested your tap water to see what your levels are for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH? You pH is fine for most fish, even those that prefer slightly acidic water. Don't try to do anything to get it lower.

Hi Welcome to the forum. I too have a trigon 350 and it's the best thing since home made bread.
I am no pro but assuming that the bit it bold was a typo and your nitrites are in zero then I would say you were cooking on gas my friend.

Hi and :hi:

Your test results sound pretty good.

As suggested, ammonia and nitrites must be zero at all costs.

Nitrate on the other hand can be tolerated to levels up to as much as 100ppm (but far from ideal)

Your 40ppm is really ok and could be reduced with water change by using RO water if high nitrates are in your tap water.

My tap water contains 40ppm and my fish have put up with it for 4 years now with no ill effects :good:

Look forward to your imput to the forum :friends:

Thanks Guys For taking the time to answer my first post, I will test my tap water as an extra procaution, I only performed my weekly water change yesterday so just glad all is well in the camp at the moment B)

Will try to get some pics uploaded soon, so as you can all see my set up.

Cheers again
