I'm looking to get a new tank, I'm not fussed about what make it is or what colour etc, just price and I want it over 200 litres.

I was looking at the Fluval Roma 240, because it comes with everything from seapets, for £365 including a fluval 305, which is the filter I want.

However I was just looking at ND and they do a 109 gallon tank for £409. However it's JUST the tank and cabinet, nothing comes with it, but it is significantly larger than the fluval and I dont know wther to spend a lot of money now or alot less now.

So to compare:
Fluval 240:
63 Gallons
Comes with all equipment and things like gravel and ready to go, plus free delivery.
£365

ND tank:
109 Gallons
Just the tank and cabinet
£409

Can anyone help me? I've got no idea what to do!

i got my tank built by ND aquatics and it looks great and they have great customer service but the stands are over priced so im building my own lol

Without a cabinet it would be £475.

The one i described earlier is a bargain basic type of cabinet, no doors or anything but I can just make those myself.

Would you go for a bigger tank now or a smaller one now and thne keep getting bigger over the next few years?

I just went through the same thing, there tanks are very overpriced. A tank is a tank at the end of the day. For £600 i got a new jwel with everything in,lights filter etc the ND worked out over £850 for the same thing and i would have had to run around makeimng sure things fitted in the ND one

Haven't seen the ND one but logic would says that get the bigger one. You can easily upgrade the filter etc at any point but you can't upgrade the tank size without getting a new one.

Have you looked at 2nd hand tank? I got my 215 litre for £105 all in (tank, cabinet, hood filter, heater) and it was still in very good condition.

Yeah I know, it wasnt the things that came with it that interested me, its that it was all inclusive, everything fits etetc and it was still cheaper.

I've looked at secondhand yes but there doesnt seem to be anything near me (East lancs) and I cant travel, so i thought my best bet would be to just go for a new one.

Theres a shop near me that sells used tanks, might go and have a gander up there at the weekend.

and bigbruiser thats what i thought, a tank is a tank, fair enough if it was sealed with liquid gold and that..

Just seen the ND website. I see what you mean. Still, if you have somewhere to rest the tank on then they are not a bad option to be honest. I'm not worried about whether things fit or not, more worried about how much the extra cost. Light is not cheap. External filter isn't either.

Roma 240 was £300 all in when I was looking back in December. There are still places selling at just over £300 I think. Keep looking.

Check out all pond solutions... They got a 4ft 330ltr tank with cabinet and loads off other goodies for just £359..
Looks the buisness as well

Oh no I wasn't saying they are bad cabinets etc, just that it was all that extra money for something just that simple.

I know about the whole light/filter thing, thats why I'm pretty happy the seapets deal comes with lights and filter! To be honets I've spent the night (not until now!) scrolling through aquarist classified, and there seems to be a lot of full setups for sale for decent prices, I'm just hoping there's one like it at the end of may!

I've looked at allponsolutions, I dont like the cabinets really, but I could always paint it though, thankyou :)
Thankyou for all your help everyone.

I'd recommend not going for the Fluval, their 05 external filters are terrible, they're unreliable and are prone to leaks, out of all of the filters we stock at work these are the ones that are returned the most. I'd recommend an Eheim, Tetratec, Rena or All Pond Solutions filter instead.

Also, clearseal do custom built tanks, and any maidenhead aquatics store can have one made for you.

Really? Oh #41####. I cant afford eheims really, are the TetraTec XC1200 (i think thats what its called anyway) good?

Clearseal tanks are still more expensive when you put everything together than the deal you get at seapets or all pond solutions, thats the route i was going to go down at first.

And maidenhead aquatics, there isnt a store near me, nearest one is blackpool, and i dont really want to be bringing fishy things back on the train!

Tetratec make good filters, the taps are easy to break but if you're careful you'll have no problems, I've had a TTex700 running for nearly 4 years problem free, I've never had to replace a part, careful maintenance is essential with external filters, you should regularly grease the O-ring.

my ND tank will be here on wednesday so cant comment on quality until it arrives although ive never heard a bad review about them.

they currently have an offer on and my 60x18x24 inc stand and hood has cost £470 delivered which isnt a bad deal on a 5ft tank. i already have the filters etc so this has cost me no extra but im sure the fluval 05 will be a bit of a let down as they do break very easily and dont get great reviews..... for lighting i have opted for the LED's at an extra cost of £100 but there are lots of deals on lights around including used. if you search around you can get some great deals.

i dont think you will get a tank as big from a named manufacturer like rena, fluval etc for the money. and the lids on the fluvals, rena and jewel tanks are very flimsy and give no option for adding more light or moving the lights to suit your needs, they are where they are end of. they arent bad tanks but with a custom tank you have much more options available to suit your needs including colour of stands, handle choice and best of all size...

Mattlee - have you got your tank yet?

Have you experienced any problems so far?

i had a roma 240 then upgraded to a nd tank and the difference is well worth it. the quality just stands out. the cabinets are extremely well built and sealed where any water could potentially get in and damage them. their customer service was excellent and the aquarium was delivered by them and not a courier so care was taken with it. really cant recommend them enough!!!
