I'm going to have to go for pets at home in stockport. They started off as Petsmart, got a really bad press from other LFSs and strangely enough changed to pets at home. I'm not sure wether it was just another company took over or they rebranded. Sufice to say that the name may have changed but the people working the have not!

I too have been to this disgrace of a shop and agree with the above quote.
There are so many good lfs that i dont see why you cant name and shame .

The only thing i could think is that if a lfs stocks fish that are not your cup of tea then you will automatically poo poo it.And thats not fair.
But i think the people on this forum are intelligent enough too see past that.

However if you read any general magazines there are so many stories of complaints about the huge supermarket chains,from wonky wheels on trolleys to poor customer services and they dont mind it just helps them improve.
That is the way it should be done with lfs,lets write the complaints name and shame them so they will improve.

I would have to say petsmart stockport is way the worst .

The guy incharge (i think) of the fish was answering a query when i went in.
He was only about 20 and tried pairing off a male dwarf and a male banded gourami as a pair of male/female dwarf gourami's,needless to say i had to correct him and told him the difference,he did look embarassed and he deserved to.


The funny thing is by now i'd decided the fish were not cared for particularly well so i just hung around looking at the tanks for a while and noticed that all the other fish section staff(3) asked him everything like he was the expert,only by now he realised that i was near by and could hear everything he said.

You had to be there to understand how funny it was when he was answering each question with a bright red face incase he answerd wrong.

However nearly all other of my lfs have got a fantastic knowledge base so i'm not to down!

another store... well at least it's a bit better than Pets Paradise. This store is called Pets Parade... what's with all the pets at the front?
They keep their betta's in the same tiny containers... but at least the other fish get proper tanks ...althought there was a tank full of dead guppies

I meant its to do with the funky names of things like wally world! And George W bush. (he is messed up. Michael Jackson, oj simpson 2!)

Why would anyone want to buy a product from wally world? In the uk a wally is an idiot.

The messed up bit means confused, not like theres anything wrong with you usa guys! Far from it.
I think our cultural diff's in lingo has caused a misunderstanding.

I'm glad that most of the LFS around here don't have any fish in them that are dead, exept PETSMART and PETCO, they really do suck, although it does feel good when I can buy a fish from there and have it live. It makes me feel like a truely accomplished aquarist.

I have two nearby fish stores. One is a branch in a garden centre. Huge range of fish, they do marine fish and the more rare (pah terms) fish such as arrowanas etc etc. But they are too far away but they quite good.

The one I use is Pets At Home, which is very good. Okay, the staff aren't too knowledgeable, but I have books and the internet and this forum. I can do my own research. The fish are always healthy looking and if I have a problem with a fish it is dealt with straight away. (dead/sick fish).

Pets At Home took over all the Petsmart stores in the UK, and it is 100% better since the changeover. I'm not even gonna put imo, because imo it is fact!

One time at my usualy lfs (which is normally very very good) The fish I had been planning on getting wasnt in yet. I also had planed to get a small shark catfish, that wouldnt mind being the only one of his kind. I was thinking a bala or redtail black. She sell me an iredescent. Which I found out later grows HUGE, and needs others of his kind. He was so depressed that he actually layed down on the bottom, and I thought he was dead. But then he jumped up and swam to the other corner.Repeat. Needless to say he went right back to the store. Where he still lives, and is much happier in a tank with other id sharks. She must have just been having an off day. Because as I said normally they are quite good there.
