How do my friends across the pond feel about hosting the Olympics?

Americans looking very smart in their Ralph Lauren suits.

I'm actually quite enjoying the ceramony. A pretty good show so far imo. The story it told was really well thought out.
I was'nt really feeling the Olympics til today, so decided to watch the opening ceremony and I also think the show so far had been great.

Pretty much the same Dan. The torch seemed to drag on forever and a day, but the spectacle has been great.

It was worth it and made me proud to be British (even though I'm not :p). And then the OAP appeared and it went downhills (not spoiling it for US friends).

Was quite proud though to see a Palestinian team! Go team Palestine :D :D :D

Yay! Finally watching. The opening segment was wonderful! I loved the passage of time and though it wasn't "tidy" neither was it in history! Bravo!

I was, as I am every Olympics, TOUCHED by the countries of our world gathering peacefully. I wish that we lived in this world as we could.

ps:I don't ever say nasty things about Football being called soccer or soccer being called football. Shame on all for such a small nasty.

The games are on: Goodluck everyone!!! Especially the countries with under 10 athletes!

So far i think they've done a pretty rubbish job of the opening ceremony. Not a twinkle in the eye of the Beijing Ceremony
MBOU, you're not missing anything worthwhile

I'm sorry, which ceremony were you watching? Possibly your problem is that you think we should have been trying to outdo the Chinese at their own game. That's clearly not going to happen, so Danny Boyle has done something different. I don't remember any comedy (a la Mr Bean) at Beijing. I certainly don't remember the Chinese President getting involved in the way Queenie Liz has.

Open ceremony I think is disappointing, the rings were good, the rest is Dull, unless it bucks up.......its a let down........sorry...

At the risk of repeating myself:- I'm sorry, which ceremony were you watching? Possibly your problem is that you think we should have been trying to outdo the Chinese at their own game. Paul McCartney's set last night was sublime, what a night!

Funnily enough, that was the one bit that I thought was disappointing. Macca's voice has ssssoooooo not aged well - it was cracking up all over the place. And as for having to have a backing track.......

Overall, I thought it was blumin brilliant, and the lighting of the cauldron by the young pretenders was so in-keeping with the theme of Inspiring A Generation, and so unexpected.

One last thing, I am reliably informed by a cyberbuddy of mine on thepompeychimes.net that the helicopter fly-through of Tower Bridge was not CGI-ed, it was real - it was his helicopter! Neither Queenie nor Daniel Craig were on board at the time, though.

The same rubbish ceremony as you. Am i not allowed an opinion? As it seems you are trying to tell everyone who dislikes the games and the ceremony that they're wrong, and it's actually fantastic :grr:

Some people like cringeworthy comedy and disappointing acting, whereas i, and alot of people, prefer a more classy and impressing ceremony, like the Beijing one

I'd like to see the German nation's reaction to their official representative's wave....

In fairness, the photo makes it look worse than it was - he didn't stand there like that, he was waving, but his wrist didn't move, he was flexing at the elbow.

Camilla didn't look too impressed.

Boris was laughing his head off though...

Personally i thought it was the best opening ceremony of any sporting event i have seen. Danny Boyle deserves a knighthood for what he achieved.

and just one more thing, i loved this touch....
