I just saw those pictures...
They aren't as bad as I thought. I could take worse pictures at a nearby aquarium store... they seem to take care of most of their animals but their bettas.... are in bad shape... every time I go, half of them are dead, it's obvious that nobody maintains their tiny bowls, they have no covers so some of them jump out, and the water is literally FILTHY not just yellow...
Obviously nobody buys them so they just stay that way until they die...
They are the best aquarium outlet around here so I went there to buy a betta tank, and insisted on a lid, they asked why and I said the bettas will jump... and they laughed at me and said they do not jump! I pointed to their betta wall with bettas who had jumped, and they said they didn't see any.
It's ridiculous and sad especially in a place that seems to take care of the rest of their fish. They just ignore the bettas completely.
Meanwhile, the tiniest pet shop in the world near my place, they have a tiny wall of about 10 bettas at a time, veiltail and crowntail, and I've never seen them in anything but sparkling clean water every time I go. They are still in the small containers, but they are most of the way full of water, and with many holes in the lid that can't be blocked by stacking. They look wonderfully healthy. I got my crowntail there.
Why can the little guys get it right and the big guys can't even give them basic care?
