Papa John's Dang Near Killed Me

I love scorching hot food, but just a pepper on its own? Nah.

Heat as part of a complex meal. Yeah!

My Grade 9 boys would have these I'm so tough pepper eating competitions. As a teacher, I had to break them up because, of course, there was bullying popping up in them, but the purple faced boys had game.

following the theme of this thread, I can say my stroke a year and a half ago, "saved my life"... I used to be a hot pepper person, ate a few challenge chips, just for fun, didn't even break a sweat... got many ghost pepper & scorpion pepper sauces at home... I had my stroke, & I still love the "taste", but started getting heat burn now, on anything hotter than Ketchup... I can't even drink carbonated beverages, or I get heart burn ( I miss my Diet A&W Rootbeer, at the end of the day ) & my Triple Applewood Smoked Ghost pepper powder... which made an awesome chili powder

I absolutely love chilli. There's a brand widely available here in the UK called Encona which is my go to sauce. Apart from fruit, cakes, desserts and breakfast cereal, it goes on pretty much everything I eat, including an english breakfast.

It has a taste similar to tabasco but it is a thick sauce.

They do an extra hot version but I prefer the standard version as an every day table condiment.

It's the combination of heat and flavour that I like. Not really interested something that burns your tongue so much you can't appreciate the flavour.

This is / was my chili powder...
I think my favorite sauce was Melinda's... but looks like they changed the label... I always called it my "little girl" sauce, as it had a picture of a little girl harvesting fresh ingredients for the sauce, on the label... it had an incredible flavor... we had some friends over lately, & their adult son, likes hot stuff, & asked if we had anything hotter than the Siracha on the table... I pulled out my "little girl" sauce, we both put some on our plates... his was still there after supper so I assume it was just the "macho" asking for something hotter...

I have to take meds for reflux, and reflux made me dial down the heat on meals. I still cheat and suffer sometimes, but I have had to become a medium hot curry guy now. If it weren't for this getting older thing, ah, the things I would eat and drink...

I've found that caffeine,. gives me heart burn now too... but I have to draw the line somewhere, on what I can give up...

I can't have a chili of any description anywhere in the house. My husband is intolerant of any capsicum from sweet peppers upwards. I'm talking about projectile vomiting 6 hours after eating them. When I buy stir fry veg mix, I have to go through it piece by piece removing every trace of pepper - then adding them to my portion because I love peppers.

You should take in some Trinidad scorpions for them to try.

Psst, guys, I got some chillis but I reckon your not brave enough to try them

And don't tell them to wash their hands before they go to the loo. That's funny watching guys after they have been for a tinkle without washing the chilli off their hands first.
OMG IT BURNS

Alas, I fear I am not 😔

Damn Magnum that's awful sorry to hear on 2 fronts. Stroke obviously being number 1 glad you're OK now and number 2 changing your diet. Food is meant to be enjoyed and that got taken from you on a certain level. In this house we don't eat food without some sort of chile (heat). I couldn't imagine not being able to eat what is most enjoyed but maybe I'd lose a few lbs lol

I love a bit of heat but not so much that all you can taste is burn. I craved curried chillies and cheese sandwiches during both my pregnancies 🤤 so good

I just got back from Los Angeles visiting my son. He lives near Thai town. We had two dinners in two different Thai restaurants. I love spicy food, but the level of heat in these restaurants was off the charts. I gave some lectures in Bangkok a few years back and I must say the food in the Thai restaurants in LA was nearly as good as in Bangkok.
