Large Empty Tank And Thinking Of Oscars.....

i have been thinking of adding some species of eel or bichir to my tank can anyone reccommend any that will be ok with my stocking?

just to update my current stocking is -

1 x oscar
1 x diadema
1 x gold severum
1 x rotkeil severum
1 x BGK
1 x jaguar catfish
2 x humbug catfish
1 x royal panaque pleco
1 x pike cichlid

i also have a EBJD but its way too small at the minute so it wont be added for at least a year or so when its big enough to handle itself amongst my big boys

i was really tempted with simonas rubber eel but the distance between us is too much to collect  and i think he has changed his mind on selling now anyway.

I think with your boys you will be better off with a birchir as they are armoured whereas an eel maybe too soft bodies to take an investagatory (blimey thats a big word for me  ) nip from one of the others. However with the size of keiths mouth you would want a reall good size birchir.

that is what i was thinking to be honest just without the big long word :S

i saw some at wharf and was tempted but i left them there as i know nothing about them and have never kept any. can anyone shed any light on bichirs for me? are they nocturnal so will hide or are they pretty out going?

I can only help with sengal birchir, they are out and about during the day, love to just laze in your plants, but not generally hiding just sleeping and love belting up and down in current. They tend to just beetle about minding their own business. None aggressive towards other fish, but will eat anything that they can get in their mouth (and will try bigger if they can), they are not fussy eaters. I dont think you saw the ones I have here, you were too busy drooling at the texas

just got back from a big trip to Oddball express and came home with 2 x cichlasoma ornatum and a nicaraguan cichlid :hyper:

ill post pics tomorrow for you all to see. although the ornatums are small and pretty colourless at the minute but will hopefully bloom into gorgeous fish....

also nipped into stars on the way back to collect some rotkeil juvis. thankyou very very much for those star :good:

 i know im getting bad arent i......

but thats me totally and fully stocked now. im having to grow the ornatums up so they will be ready hopefully in about 12 months and the nicaraguan is already about 3.5-4 inches so hopefully he can go in a bit sooner.

my grow out tank has in its own become a tank full of stunning fish which now includes the ornatums, the nicaraguan and an EBJD :hyper: fingers crossed they will grow into beautifull fish. ill keep you all posted on their development :good:

You are most welcome mate :good:

the pike cichlid was introduced last night so he didnt eat the ornatums in the spare tank

he came face to face with Keith and ran a mile. much more settled today though but still wary of the big giants swimming with him

not quite that expensive but still expensive especially considering they are only about 1.5 inches

the pike cichlid seems to have settled in very well and is eating like a horse, its got a right fat gut tonight  and my BGKF is still alive so all is well :good:

maybe they just not met yet

FTS's of the latests tankmates wouldnt go too far amiss there Matt :) Its been a while since we last saw, and the stocking has certainly changed somewhat since the lask sneak peak :p

All in good time, i'll wait patiently :)
