L_Plates - Shrimp Tank

I agree, just been reading his feedback and the buyers all seem very happy with the delivery and shrimp.

Im happier now knowing i will be saving over £40 on them :D

I went off the idea of keeping Crystal Reds after I read this Planet Inverts .

Seems like you need to be very sure of your tank conditions before you think of introducing them unless you're prepared to risk your money.

If it were me, I think I'd be inclined to break the tank in with something less demanding, like Red Cherries. Then when everything had been running and settled for a while and I'd got my plant regime sorted, I would take them back to my LFS and order the Crystal Reds.

But it's up to you, of course. It's your money and your tank - which I think is lovely, by the way :D :good:

Cheers mate, i read that article the other day. I know CRS can be one of the more harder shrimp to look after but they are stunning. I am going to let the tank settle for a while before deciding on what to get.

I feel if i rush i will only regret it.

Cool....I hope it all works out for you :D

On a plant-y note, I'm also interested to see if that Alternanthera stays red.

I have 11w over a 27L tank, and my Rotala rotundifolia won't go even slightly red until it's practically emerged from the water surface  , so I'm defo in the market for a red plant that stays red in those conditions. :good:

I know i am crossing my fingers and toes on this as well.

Just under 2watt per gallon and its right underneath the light so it should get plenty.

The Alternanthera is turning green on the top of the leaves already but is still red on the underneath.

Could this be down to the plant getting use to be submerged ? or would it more than likely not be getting enough light ?

11 watts over 5.9 gallon.

thats what it does, the leaves will soon start to melt. Stay with it though, it will soon start to develop its new leaves. In a couple of weeks, you can trim the old stuff off and plant remaining plant. See my journal, and you'll see how and when i trimmed it.

Ahhh got yeh, so let it melt, wait for new leaves, then trim it right down and replant.

Cheers Ian, LP

Looking good mate, really good, once this grows in it'll look fantastic.

Been doing daily 50% water changes, just waiting for the melt of the hc and then see it grows back :)

Evening Everyone,

There is not really any difference or changes to the tank since the last update.

The FloraBase substrate has been leeching ammonia as expected so i have been doing 50% water changes everyday.

The Alternanthera Rosaefolia Mini has started to melt again this is expected and i will wait till i start to see new growth from the plant before i trim it right back and replant. Hopefully when i do this it will keep its red colour a little more.

The HC i feel is on the verge of melting also, i am hoping it does pull through and starts to send out runners.

So my daily routine is as follows:-

  • 50% Water Change
  • Add 1ml Flourish Excel
  • Add 5ml Ferts (EI)

Not really much of an update i agree but good routines and patience is needed. In a couple of weeks i am hoping i will be getting closer to ordering some shrimp :)

Cheers, LP

looking nice though mate, i didnt have the patience to spread the hc so thin in mine :D
