edit: been wondering what these small red spiky things were all over the rock and after looking through mad99's journal they seem to be protist (Foraminiferan). are these good? got around 20+ of them and a larger white one.

Do you mean GAB's Journal? :p
One day he told me he had those things and I noticed I did too so i spent a bit trying to find what they were. Only really found one thing on them!

They seem to be tiny tiny filter feeders, but really not much is known about them. They don't hurt anything. They will stay very small individually, but they tend to multiply and create "colonies" of themselves. Neat little things aren't they?

Tank looks great :)
Are you replacing your current powerheads with koralias? Koralias are so much less bulky looking.

yeah probably GAB's, had already started writing my post and CBA to go back and check lol.

i quite like the look of them so pleased to know theyr good :)

yeah waiting for the koralia to be delivered, then its bye bye to the nasty looking powerheads. need to get the skimmer in the sump too

had a tank mystery this morning. bought 3 turbos, 1 hermit and a shrimp from the lfs. come down this morning to find a dead hermit out of its shell so was a bit gutted thinking i lost it. got in from work today and the hermit i bought had not died.. it was climbing up the rock. where did this other hermit come from? do they share shells?

Don't share shells. Sure it isn't a molt? Arthropods shed their outter skin to grow and sometimes it will look nearly identical to the actual animal. They also tend to molt when stressed (like being added to a new tank ;))

ah that would explain that then, didnt think the colours would be exaclty the same. when my freshwater shrimps shed their skin it was clear.

got a new addition to the CUC today, a star fish. hes still being introduced to the tank ATM so ill get some pics up when hes released.

waters looking spot on, done a 30% water change last night and the phos remover and carbon is in the sump.

decided to have a look in the LFS earlier and spotted these 2 clowns in their own tank away from the others. they looked quite a bit more colourful than the 20 or so in the other tank so decided to buy them :D

found one of the turbos dead today, hasnt really moved since i got it, iv been checking it everyday to see if it was ok. smelt pretty nasty when i took it out.

tested the water while i was in there

the clowns are looking well althought theyr not exploring the tank much, they spent most of yesterday in the left corner, slept in one of the caves and spent today in the right corner. it looks like theyr looking for stuff in the gravel. seen a few pod looking things in there yesterday so maybe theyr looking for them?

must have ate them all up. they dont seem to be spending as much time looking in the gravel now and are exploring the tank.

the koralia 2 has arrived today :D some re-arranging of equipment is on the cards for tonight.

time for an update.

the clowns seem to be getting on really well, theyr chasing each other around and rubbing against each other. one of them is quite a bit bigger than the other now. does this mean theyv sexed?

i lost another turbo last week so theres only the one left. gonna order a clean up crew starter pack from coventry aquatics next week
2 x Astrea (Turbo)
8 x Blue Legs
1 x Brittle Star
1 x Green Emerald
2 x Cerith

£15.99 plus £8 postage. my mates getting one too so it will half the postage :D

ordered some cheato, copepods and rotifers on thurs so should be here tomorrow.

i added a large blue legged hermit on friday which wasted no time in meeting the other hermit

with the arrival of the koralia 2 i moved the skimmer to the sump and took out one of the powerheads. im well impressed with the koralia, the flow has improved loads. it should be around 3500 - 4000 lph. only thing im not happy with is the bubbles being pumped into the main tank from the sump. need to get a filter sock or something.

the button polyp that come with the rock has opened up a lot more and is changing from brown to orange and green.

there doesnt seem to be much algea either, think its down to the phos remover.

iv noticed a few red bubble looking things on the rocks. any ideas what they could be?

im more than happy with how the tanks going so far just hope its gonna stay this way.

not good. because if it burst then it releases loads of spores  your emerald crab will eat it :good:

i think one of the hermits might have eaten them? it was all over the rock where they were and now theyv gone.

havnt bought the pack from coventry aquatics yet, probably be next week now.

the cheato, rotifiers and copepods arrived today, got them up to temp and added them to the ref.
