thanks FF2, yes the Riccia needs to be attatched to something. Mine are attatched to slate with cotton.

heres a couple of pics 4 weeks into the life of the tank. There are loads of baby shrimp in there. The glosso is spreading slowly. It's all looking healthy.

Just to note though, Riccia doesn't have roots, it generally floats about in massive balls. So you do have to tie it down to stones or net to get a carpet going on - But it won't die if you have it floating

if they're anything like the fluval mini kit then nope.. its just a hand operated valve

As for the C02, it comes with a mini reg, so it'll stay on all the time. Not sure how long it will last lol, but i have a spare 90g tiny cylinder.
