Sorry for the spelling but how would you use the removal of.chlorine pour it into the bucket or pour the water in the tank and then pour the dechloriphier*

Dechlorinator :)

And I measure out how much I want to add to the tank into the measuring cap, and add a bit to each bucket.

+1

I'd worry the chlorine will hurt the fish if done the other way

Untreated tap water can also affect the bacteria in the filter. That's more of a problem of you set the filter running before adding the dechlor, though.

I usually treat each bucket before adding it to the tank, i let the bucket settle for a few minutes then pour it in. never had any issues with filter bacteria going tits up.

If that's in regard to what I said just above, I think you've misunderstood me. I meant that if you add untreated water to the tank it can affect the bacteria - especially if you plug the filter in and suck it through - and THEN add the dechlor.

Adding it to water in buckets and then putting that the tank is of course fine.

Did not mean to come across as an #16##### or anything soybean, just thought i would add my own experience and follow on from your reply.

Sorry.

I don't think you came across as anything  I was just explaining the difference.

I dose the tank, refill then let the powerhead run for about 5min before switching the filter on.

i drain out 200 litres, add two cap fulls of prime, fill it back up again with the hose on the cold tap, then add two or three 10 litre watering cans full of hot water, mixing it in with the hose water. fire up the filters then have a beer. I think people are missing out on this very important factor, you need a beer after a water change, i am making it fish keeping law.

:hyper:  pmsl ... love it lol

I have a large vodka and tonic, Tizer. I understand this principle very well indeed.

Pretty much what I did Tizer. Though by the last tank I usually got more water over me and floor than in the tank ;) trouble with too many tanks = too many drinks lol.

I used a long length of 1" pond hose to drain the tanks out the front door... all 12 tanks in one go (after turning off all filters etc). Then I would reverse the hose, pour some dechlorinator down the hose before shoving it on the tap and topping up.

I used warm water in the winter to top up the last bit but tbh it was mainly cold water fish or discus or big catfish and loaches that loved the cold water.

Plenty of time to have a drink whilst emptying each tank and then again whilst topping each tank up!

Cleaning filters was so much less fun :/

Had both my filters out last night for a clean, in the dark...outside..in the cold :( hard life.
