NOW THIS IS WHERE I AM STUCK HOW MANY L NUMBERS WILL ACCOUNT FOR MY TANK BEING STOCKED I HAVE READ DIFFERANT THINGS ALL OVER AND ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY AND CANT COME TO ANY CONCLUSION. CAN ANY ONE HELP??
Cheers

Oh um ah, dunno

Its going to depend on their sizes isnt it, their compatibility etc.

What L numbers are you interested in?

Hopefully some of the pleco fanatics will see this and help you out a bit, or you could try asking down in the pleco subforum :good:

Btw, welcome to the forum :D

Stocking totally depends on what type of plecs you want and at what size they grow to. Decide what plecs you like or want to keep and then we'll be able to provide you with more info.

Well the para, phantoms and bristlenoses will be fine together and the tank is definately large enough, those I know, cos those are the ones Ive had in the past and been fine in the tank together.

I think the nugget should be ok too, but I cant comment on the others as I know nothing about them, sorry .

So long as the tank is large enough for their long term health, then you can stock fairly well, obviously you wouldnt want 16 common plecs in a tank!!

The main problem I would guess would be territories for them, you only have a limited amount of space and most plecs do require their own cave/wood etc for them feel safe and happy.

The other consideration is filtration for a large amount of plecs, lets face it, they are particularly messy fish, who poop out 100x more than they eat

So you would need a good filter, a good water change routine and the patience to vac a lot!

Are you planning on any other fish or just plecs?

I haven't kept the L018, L191 or L240 so can't comment on temperament. I do keep the following Plecs in a 5ft tank together with no problems though:

Green Phantom pleco (L200)
3 xBristlenose - 2 x male and 1 female
Peckoltia (L205)
Blue Fin Panaque (L239)
Candy Striped Pleco (L015)
2 x Leopard Frog pleco (L134)
Clown Panaque (LDA67)
Para Pleco (L124)

I do have lots of bogwood, rock and slate caves in the tank so they all have room to create their own territories. I also run two external filters on the tank to keep the water quality good and provide plenty of oxygen.

hi thanks for that, bit of a newbie so not sure where to post stuff thanks for the Help :good:

The Blue Fin is gorgeous, one of my favourites.
I found the Blue Phantom to be very sensitive and sadly, mine died.
I've heard from a few people that Golden Nuggets can also be sensitive and they have lost them for no reason.
I keep Congo Tetras, Pentazona and Ticto Barbs with mine. The tank was set up for the Plecs and we planned stocking around them.
This was my tank when I first set it up, there's more wood and rock in there now though!

Look forward to seeing your pics!

i really like the congo tetras amazing fish to watch and the pearesant colours that come off them are amazing... some shops near me a charging £7.95 per congo tetra but i have found them in another LFS for £1.99 Bargain i thought as the rest i seem to see are all around the £7 mark

will upload photos in the next few days going fish shopping tommorow so should be fun its like my first day back at school lol :hyper:

Congo Tetras are fanatstic to keep and very active. They do make use of the space in the tank and can often be seen "racing" each other up and down the tank.
Enjoy your fish shopping!
