Honduran Red Points Cichlids Breeding - Free Swimming Fry :)

All still going strong, the fry haven't grown much but I didn't expect them to...

When should I expect a growth spurt?

Any one got any ideas on good growth milestones for convicts/hrps?

You may find a group of them will suddenly start growing and double the size of the others, my convicts did, the sevs are doing the same.

Just seen my first fry death, after being moved by mouth :(

Still loads though (although the pic only show about 1/3):

Sometimes the parents will kill some of the fry, they can see better than us if one is not propperly formed or is struggling, sometimes its accidental when they want to move them! Looking great though :good:

Caught the little tikes trying to eat Hikari Gold pellets on the surface, so funny to watch...it's like they go in for the strike :) The pellet is bigger than them....

The female is now starting to act a bit nasty towards the male, not really sure why...?

Can anyone shed any light on the behaviour?

Youtube vid of it (I haven't cleaned the back of the tank since setup BTW)

They are just comming up to about 4 weeks old now, the male is more than likely trying to entice the female to spawn again and she is having non of it because of the fry. Do you have a grow out tank ready? I would advise moving the fry else the male will most likely start to eat them to get rid of them so they can spawn again. This happened with my convicts the male started eating the young at around 4 weeks old then the female joined in the fry all dissapeared overnight.

No grow out, only my main tank with lots of hungry cichlids....I may have to move this guy back into there then...he won't be happy

I tried for a third tank but the better half says "NO" and to be honest I would have nowhere for it to go anyway

Looks like mayhem in there

Beyond mayhem!

Just got an outbreak of planaria worms in this tank I think (and hope as they are harmless)...I think the other half has fed beyond my instructions whilst I've been gone...which I think can cause outbreaks of these worms...she has been feeding for the past 5 weeks 3 days a week

I only noticed because I left the filter off for about an hour (forgot to turn on after feeding for the above vid) and when I put it on I guess about 50 worms were sprayed out...all the fish have eaten them now

I occasionally get them in the sev tank, the babies love them. Great to see the babies still doing well :good:

The male is getting into breeding colours again, he is trying it on big time...the female is just concerned about babies..just hoping he doesn't start eating the fry to make way for more *fingers crossed*
I feel sorry for him though, he obviously wants to just do his bit and propagate his species :)
