Honduran Red Points Cichlids Breeding - Free Swimming Fry :)

Beautiful pair mate, that Leucistic is georgeous

Thanks Nelly, these ones from the first batch are definitely keepers I think...they are very outgoing and boisterous

For some reason it always seems that the Leucistic's grow faster than the other fry too, I recounted and I have 5/20 fry in the HRPs tank, pretty good ratio if you like them :)

The only trouble is I only have the main tank and the breeding tank, so I struggle on either keeping fry in with the parents (risking the male will eat them when he wants spawn again) or putting them into the main tank and hoping for the best (lots of hungry mouths in there but more hiding places)

I guess the good thing is that the ones that survive either tank are solid as a rock, to the point that they flare up at all the other fish in the main tank including a 5" port acara and rotkeil sevs now at almost 4"

I'm gonna have a hard job catching the blighters in the main tank when I want to take to the LFS or pass them on......and I don't like the idea of removing all the decor...

I hate that, but try removing a fry thats not even an inch from a 300 gallon pond, I had to wait till 12 at night, and get a flashlight to get that fish out of the pond. Once they get 1.5 inches, they are easy to get out. My first sucessful batch was %80 males of ones that survived.

Well I've had to remove a bunch of rocks and slate from my main tank thanks to those 2 cute Leucistic HRP's....one had gone missing for a while and it turned out to be building a bloody nest and the other is defending the territory! They paired up at a smidgen over 1"!!!

It had dug out that much sand that a series of rocks and 2 levels of slate collapsed in the tank with an almighty thud, good job I put perspex sheets against the glass for the rocks to rest against as I suspect I would have had a cracked pane of glass if not!

I need to get another plec I think to help clear out eggs, and not a BN otherwise I might have a mating pair of those too!

I tried getting some pics, but thanks to Sev's wanting attention I only managed this one of the "female" watching out from her nest after I removed all the rocks/slate:

I really need to start offloading all these HRP minus one of the Leucistics I think...they're just a breeding nightmare I can't accommodate

I may even get rid of the parents too and start with something totally different in the 125L...a species only tank of something oddball that can fit maybe

Mine never paired off becasue I had 6 1" males dominating the tank. The BNs arent protective at all, mine breed once and I never knew till I saw the fry sucking on wwod, so no worries there.
