Have Any Of Your Cats Ever Had A Long Spell Of Diarrhea?

She eats her old food just fine, though. Maybe b/c it a comfort food since she knows it? I've been thinking about what to do w/her. She's gone from 9 lbs to 4 lbs and she's already been to the vet once. Won't be able to afford to run another $200 in tests for another month. I feel bad about her living in the bathroom, but don't want her running around the house crapping all over. Seems that she goes where ever she deems fit and in the bathroom her litter box is close by so she doesn't have an issue in there.

*Another concern is if something's wrong that requires lots of $$ then we won't be able to afford it. I'm afraid we'd have to put her to sleep

Thanks. I'm really bummed out by this. My mom and I hand raised her. Really don't want to loose her. Will get to the vets as soon as I'm able and will post the results.

Hopefully she'll pull through.

My Dinah (he's a boy, long story  ) has been having problems losing weight lately. He's always been really active, he's nine and still runs around like a kitten. I've had him since he was 5 weeks old, rescued him from some abusive people, so I'm rather attached to him. Anyways, Bailey (another boy, he's 6) is overweight, in May he weighed in at almost 19lbs, the vets decided he should be about 15 (he's a big boy). At that time they said Dinah weighed 10lbs, I still think their scales were off as he's never weighed that much. After 6 weeks I took them back for a weigh in, Bailey had lost 1/2 lb :grr: Dinah had lost almost 2! So they tested his thyroid which came out normal. I though he might not be getting enough food, but the vet doesn't think so, they are both eating enough to maintain a 15lb cat which means Bailey should lose and Dinah should not. So fast forward a month and Bailey is finally down a total of almost 2lbs and Dinah is down another pound. Vet can't figure out why, no masses can be felt, he's perfectly active, eats fine, fur looks great, just skinny. So, they're almost out of food again and now I'm in Wyoming so I'll be taking them to a new vet. Dinah doesn't feel like he's gained any weight, if anything he feels even more bony. So we'll see what they think, and hopefully Bailey is still losing.

Anyways, sorry for the long story just thought I'd tell you that you are not alone. Not knowing what is wrong is really frustrating.

wow. Thanks for sharing your kitties' issues. Yes it is nice to know I'm not the only person on here w/kitty issues. I do hope to get peewee in soon. My hubby suggested to call around to get various prices on the bloodwork. Think I may do that tomorrow.

so which cat is in your profile? Dinah?

Nope that's my fat boy Bailey.

Here's Dinah:

And a less irritable looking Bailey. For some reason he doesn't like dress up.

Good idea about calling around, if you have a local humane society or aspca they may be able to help as well. :good:

Some very lovely cats Dawn  Your Bailey doesn't look fattish in the profile pic. With the way his hair sticks out of the shoulders and out around his head it just looks like he has a bit of long hair to fit under there, but doesn't look chubby to me.

On a good note: Peewee is EATING the Blue Buffalo!! YAY!! Hopefully after a few weeks of this food she'll be ok. If not, off to the vet's we go for round two.

Oh, good luck with Peewee, glad to hear she's eating the food. :good:

I'll tell Mr.Bailey that the camera takes off weight instead of adding it. He is rather fluffy, but believe me there's a lot of fat under all that fur! He is losing weight though and hopefully soon they'll be off the expensive prescription food, and maybe Dinah will start gaining again. And thanks for the compliment, they are pretty good cats when they're not annoying the crap out of me. Being cooped up in a small hotel room for 3 weeks hasn't helped, but tomorrow I close on my house so we'll be moving to 1500 square feet of space. :shout:

I'm really sorry to hear (read) about your cat. That sounds awful.

I'm sure your vet has probably considered this already, but maybe your cat has IBD? It's something that apparently can't be found through regular blood tests and requires biopsy. You might try reading through the stuff in the link and see if any of it sounds like what your cat is going through.

Well since she's starting eating it she has had firmer stools. Actual loggish shapes :) now instead of runny blobs

YAY!! Maybe she just needed a better food? I'll take her in to the vet's shortly for a check up even if she quits the "runs".

It turns out her thyroid is over active. They don't like the score to be over 4. something and hers was 15. Has to have meds 2x daily now.

That sucks, but at least you know what is wrong. They thought that might be Dinah's problem as well, but so far all his blood work has been normal. Still don't know what is wrong with him, but I don't think he's losing anymore, still skinny though.

Wow. I hope he rebounds for you. And have it end up that nothing major was wrong.

Sucks to have to give meds 2x a day. It wouldn't be to bad except that my life is really busy already. 2 school age kids to get ready for school in the morning and then a toddler. 2 dogs that need feeding + the kitty to feed. I have to get myself ready to. Business attire... so on goes the makeup and the time spent on the hair... I've only forgotten her meds once so that's not to bad for me.
