I just wanted to know what is your favourite goldfish. So you prefer the fancy ones to the common ones or the rare ones. Please suggest your favourite and the reason. I am looking at buying a goldfish for a 15 g and any of your favourite goldfish suggestions would help me a lot. Thankyou for any responses.

20 gals for first goldie, but i think you can get away with 15.

I like Orandas :) Moors are nice too

Personally, I love Celestials. (Carassius auratus)

Here's a pic of one! (not mine though)

Sarassa Ryukin.
Plain old double tail comet.
The DEEP red orandas from Japan.

I wouldn't recommend anything less than a 50 - 75g tank for any of the fancy varieties. The comet would probably do best in a small garden pond.

Thankyou for the replies so far. The pics and suggestions are great. I am still thinking of a goldfish so more suggestions would be appreciated. Black Moores are good, so are celestials. Fancy goldfish are my interests so any other suggestions are great. I would really like a bubble eye. Do goldfish like strong current. I have a good power filter which produces a reasonable amount of water current. Can a bubble eye live with the current or even act normally with the filter current on despite the fact that they have 'water blob' thingys protruding under their eye. (Will the current cause them a burden)? Once again, thankyou for any advice. :)

To me theres nothing nicer than the common goldfish but for your size tank it would be a great home to a bubble eye.
The filtration wont be too much trouble but having any ornaments will be. As they cant see very well then you will have to have an ornament free tank but soft leaved plants like cabomba may be ok.
The fancy types like the bubble eye and celestial need warm water and prefer the lower end of the tropical scale.
What about a ranchu or lionhead?

Bubble Eyes, Celestials, veiltails and other highly inbred/weak-swimming varieties do not do well with current. They are really not good swimmers at all, and some have very delicate parts (e.g., the bubble in Bubble Eyes) or can't see well (e.g., Celestials) or swim strength is very weak (e.g., those deep-bodied Ryukins or extreme veiltails).

Too much current in your tank will weaken and stress your fancy goldfish. Strong current for your fish is like you being on an electric treadmill 24 hours a day. Some fish will stay in the same location of your tank just to keep out of the current.

You cannot over filter, but you can over current. Check to see of you have too much current by watching your fish when your filter is working. Do they stay in one part of the tank? Do they become more active if you switch off the filter and the current stops pushing against them?

Goldfish are great, loveable animals, but the extremely modified fancies need special care.

Thankypu for any of the given advice previously. Your suggestions and advice have been helpful so far. Before i was keen on having a bubble eye, now my interest now change to lionheads. I don't know which ones to choose, the bubble eye or lionhead. These are both cool fish and i just want to finalise my decision. If anyone may type up the advantages and disadvantages between these fish, and your overall liking and why, it would be greatly appreciated and would certainly help in my final decision between a lionhead and a bubble eye. :D

Basically to me Lionheads are nicer to look at and not so needy. You get lots of different colours with the lionhead but not with the bubbleeye.
